Thought it would be good to get a thread going on ground dimensions, ranging from the 'G and AFL grounds to old VFL/WAFL/SANFL grounds and even your local ovals dimensions.

Here is a vid from AFL Insider last season comparing the dimensions of each ground in the league, quite an interesting video IMO.

One of the clubs in my area has an oval that is bigger than the MCG. Same length but about 10 meters wider. The ground holds finals every year and there is no atmosphere, and the games are usually a crap standard as players tire easier. Good ground for cricket though.

I made a massive list a few years ago with every WAFL/SANFL/VFL ground and their dimensions. Will post it if I can dig it up.

<||> AFL stats guru COL HUTCHINSON laid to rest any previous doubts when he produced the first accurate dimensions of most playing areas of League venues (both current and past). Using the same piece of equipment and in the same manner, from boundary to boundary, not fence to fence, these should settle a lot of argument —

MCG – 159 metres long by 136 metres
Waverley Park – 180 x 142
Princes Park – 151 x 137
Victoria Park – 164 x 133
Western Oval – 176 x 123
Kardinia Park – 171 x 117

Grounds formerly used —
Arden Street – 163 x 121
Windy Hill – 154 x 129
Moorabbin – 160 x 130
Lake Oval – 160 x 130
Junction Oval – 154 x 124
Glenferrie – 160 x 105
Brunswick Street – 147 x 130
Punt Road – 159 x 126

Found that in an interesting Footystats article. You can read it here.
