Richmond fan here, just wondering if someone can give me some info/opinions on Grover, as it appears we are keen to get him in the PSD.

All i know is that he is a 188cm defender.

Reasonably quick, evasive, average disposal, not the hardest of players.

Worth picking up though. Would replace Fiora I guess with a little more agression but a little worse disposal.

Worse disposal than Fiora? Impossible!!!

Grover has been a solid contributor for quite some time now. Unfortunately for him, he may be out of favour in the coaches box next season with our new found depth. He'd find a regular place in most bottom 8 sides, so the switch would be well worth it for both parties here.

Guys liek Grover leave, and suddenly... no depth.

It's a fine line between giving a guy a genuine go, or hanging onto him just in case.

With Groves I prefer the just-in-case scenario from a purely selfish point of view because he is good and will keep Woodsy and Hayden working hard (even interchange with Woods in and out of the side).
he's a good player and I woudl like to see him stay, but not for an over-inflated contract....

Agreed IP we should keep Grover

But that's what it'll take.

Everyone would like alot of depth, but this 'depth' (players who will play a large amount of WAFL footy) cant affort to be paid like a fringe (say, 15+ games a season) type player. Otherwise we'll never keep our stars or attract the big names.

I'm of the philosophy of having a very solid 22 then the depth should be young guys coming through the ranks. It would be nice to have experienced depth, but only if they're on minimal contracts.

Not a bad sort of player to have on your list, but I wouldn't think we'd have much hesitation in letting him go if he wants too much money. Paying those sort of players above average salaries is what gets clubs into salary cap trouble.

Losing someone like this will only present another opportunity for someone like Daniel Haines to rejoin our list. For mine, Haines, Dodd, Webster, Johnson, Mundy, Gilmore Siegert and Walker could all compete for his spot in the side. We finally have some depth and this is what would be worrying Grover!

In my opinion, even though I think he was a great contributor, him leaving would only further strengthen the side.

Good stuff if it's true.
With this being Parkers last year, we need to keep hold on our developing defenders. He didn't have a great 2003, but I'd rather have him on the list than a few others.

For mine, Parker is our best player. I wouldn't be pushing the guy into retirement just yet! Play it year by year sure, but if he continues to play the way he has, there's no doubt he should continue!

I agree about Parker, but I'm pretty sure this year will be his last year. Injury is starting to catch up with him and it would be a shame to see his career taper away if he tries to go on for too long. With fanta pants and the likes coming through, Action Man will hand over the reins at the end of the 2005 season.
