For a guy who was going to struggle to keep his spot I think Groves has been outstanding this year so far. Playing on a range of forwards his hardline approach has set a great example for the younger players. Really shapes as a key if we are to progress in 2011 - keep up the good work Groves:thumbsu:

He really has turned back the clock

He was playing this role punching above his weight ages ago for us and generally did well.
Now with Taz gone hes been asked to do it again an boy has he stepped up.

Dont forget Mcpharlap an Broughton also.
All doing a magnificent job at stopping opponents marking and on ground.

Totally agree. I never thought his number was up purely because there was nobody as versatile, consistent or experienced in our squad.
Having said that, our entire defence has been fantastic so far this season inside D50. Not as smooth coming out as we're getting used to, but we're dealing with it.
Having said THAT. we have a lot more potent forward lines to deal with starting this weekend. I'm pretty confident that Grover will get his head knocked off, then stitched back on again and while he is off Hall may just get a goal.

Has been superb this season...& unlucky not to have picked up more votes in POTY. Fingers x'd we can get a full season or near enough to out of him....

Like a fine red wine...:D

Good to see him get the credit he deserves. Always puts in 100% and has done so for 100% of his career.

Also good to see Paul Roos acknowledge his worth OTC the other night. Now there's an opinion worth listening to...

He's been huge for us so far, there was a mention in the paper the other day that he did a PB over 3km this preseason which at 31 and having played for 12 seasons is pretty damn impressive. I said in another thread that it will be a good sign for us if the younger players can push him to the bench by years end (he can't keep playing forever) but so far he's setting the bar pretty high for anyone that wants his spot which is exactly what we need.

He reminds me of Dustin Fletcher in a way, in the sense that they both know they're coming to the end of their respective careers and are just playing for fun now. It's obviously working a treat for both players.

Love Grover which is a long way from what I thought of him in his first couple of years. Really starting to become one of a chosen few now who have become or are becoming part of our history if you know what I mean. Would be great to see him get in the 200 club.

I had my doubts towards the middle of last year, but he's come good again, and is as lean and fit as I can remember. His speed this year has really impressed me, as has his tank, in the sense that he seems able to still be really effective in the end of games, which he hasn't always been able to do.

He seems committed to keep the diet and training right, and it is really refreshing to see a Freo player improving at the end of his career, instead of the tapering off and gradual fade away that a few of our players have done in the past.

Just needs to bring back the lumberjack beard look...

Has always been one of my favourite players. Can't wait for Roger to get back there as well, they seem to thrive off each other. Grover is in outstanding form, but he has started the last few seasons in top notch. A player who is very underrated, and does not get the credit he deserves.

Carry on the inconspicuous work, Antoni. :thumbsu:

I dont think he is underrated just unfashionable, but I like unfashionable:thumbsu:
Thought he was cooked early last year but has done remarkably well to turn it around and thank god he has because without him we would be royally stuffed down back

Either these guys don't watch us or the block is some sort of podium but I am guessing it is the former

Yeah it almost borders on offensive, that's why I don't listen to anything coming out of the Eastern States.

My favourite Groves moment has always being tormenting Fraser Gehrig when the TWAT gave away consecutive 50m penalties against Mundy. The pure joy on Groves face while he gave the knuckle dragger grief was priceless.....actually can anyone find that footage.
