This has happened so many times now in Richmond games, the umpire admitting they're wrong AFTER the game.
Why were there TWO umpires miles away from play?
The closest one actually had a good line of sight so that argument is complete and utter bollocks.
Even KB was dirty on this decision and he never bags the umpires.
We kick that one,the crowd goes beserk and we have some awesome momentum.
TY umpires.

Why ,every year,do the umpires have the perfect game on grand final day?

What's Ball on about, "no prior"?

The AFL head umpire's coach is sitting at the same table saying that it was holding the ball, and Ball is STILL trying to argue there was no free?

Either Hayden Kennedy or Luke Ball gets it wrong here and I think I know which!

Read the umpire's lips Lukie: it was holding the ball!

Why should 'prior' even matter. The Norf guy was tackled in the action of kicking. It missed his foot. That kicking action IS HIS PRIOR. Holding the ball. Not ****ing rocket surgery.

Yep. Was going to point that out myself, but the point (well my point anyway) is that the AFL said the decision was wrong so there's just no logic to Ball trying to argue otherwise.

Normally I don't care much for incorrect calls made by umpires because I figure at some point down the track we will most likely benefit from a bad call just like North Melbourne did on Sunday. It's also easy to over look bad calls in the H&A season because one lost game is not season defining but a bad call in an Elimination final is and that is what upsets me most. The problem with this free is it isn't even debatable. It was 100% holding the ball and you cannot argue it wasn't where as some of the other questionable decisions being brought up (like the Ziebell high tackle) aren't so clear cut.

To those saying North were better and deserved to win, I have to ask how you can be so sure. Had we been given the free and Edwards kicked that goal we would've been leading by a point and the pressure would have been on North Melbourne to respond as much as it was on us to seal the game. That decision by the umpires was a 12 point play in favor of North and put Richmond under pressure to kick two goals to just undo the mistake. That is a tough ask against quality opposition with only 7 mins on the clock. That call robbed us of any possible momentum we could've got going and gave it to North as they got a nice comfortable lead where as we had to take risks and take the game on to try and get back into the game.

Having said all that the game is done and the result won't change nor should it. We gave them a good contest for most of the game even with our MIA midfielders. Who knows what could've happened had we been playing our best footy. Although that Elimination final ended our season I'm choosing not to let it define our season. The boys played some really good footy particularly in the latter half of the H&A season and I'll back them against any team anywhere going forward. We've got some work to do but I believe this team will be the one will go the distance.

This is the gutless prick who should never umpire an AFL match ever again. No balls to make the most obvious call because the scores were close, it was late in the game and close to goal. We know most umps are bad but any umpire who chokes on the most obvious and crucial call like that has no place in the AFL. Gtfo you tool.

A call like that mentally saps the players as well.

Then the players need to grow some balls.
Oh crap, Nostra, it lifts North and deflates us, that's human nature, a difficult task just got 200% harder (yes, I plucked that % out of my arse).
How do you stop thoughts at a time like that, we played with balls all day.

For all those saying 'North were better overall etc, etc' yes, North were better at 90% of the game - clearances, tackling, contested possessions (I could go on:cool:) - but the most fundamental, important skill in the game - the one that puts the score on the board - goalkicking!!!!! - we were far better. Like, we were really good, and they were less than average. That's why we were close, that's why we could have won if that free kick was paid, and that's why we would have deserved to win.

I'm not whinging (much) about the free kick - umpires stuff up all the time - I just treat it like a bad bounce (no, they are not corrupt or biased. Incompetent - well.............:p).

I'm just saying - we deserved to be that close, and if we had got the free (the lucky bounce) we would have earned the win fair and square.
