Ok now don't fall off your seats laughing.......

but I had to coach our under 8's team today......as the normal coach is sick........And....

We won!

Not bad if I say so myself.....even if the under 8's really have no idea in the world......so we were perfectly matched seeing as I had no idea at all either!

Anyway just thought I would share my moment of glory with you.

they only take losing coaches.... :o :D

awww shucks.......Thanks folks! It was actually alot of fun.

Tell you what tho, saw the perfect example of sterotypical bad sports parenting.

One little boy, 7 years old, refused to listen cause I was a 'girl' and 'girls know nothing about football'. When he was pulled up for the umpteemth time for telling others what to do instead of worrying about himself, he went into a rage. I told the little child that I wouldn't be spoken to like that (whilst all the time seething - had my son spoken to an adult like that he would have been clipped round the ears quick smart), when his father decided to excuse his behaviour, not apologise for it, by saying that the child was out of position and frustrated.

This is under 8's for crying out loud, they have no set positions, they simply have 3 forwards, 3 backs and 3 centres and 3 on the bench, and rotate each qtr. They have specific zones they have to stay in, no smothering, no tackling, no kicking off the ground.

I informed both the child and father that if it happened again the child would be coming off the ground. When it did happen the father said 'you want him off you get him off yourself, I told him to stay on'. So I did (after discussing it with the ground marshall). When he wouldn't come off, I picked him up round the middle and carried him off. Copped a few choice words from the dad, a round of applause from the other parents, and bite on the arm from the little bugger. Suffice to say the ground marshall reported both the child and father and child will now not be playing next week.

At under 8's it is as much learning about team work and respect as it is about learning to play football.
It is such a shame that even at such a young age, parents are instilling such poor on field behaviour in their kids.

Well done Danni and team!

LOL actually Rip he did - his mandatory qtr on the bench, and a qtr playing for the other team after one of their kids got sick and aother hadn't shown up. I ended up rotating 3 of our kids thru the other team over 3 qtrs, makes it more fair for the kids to get as much footy as they can.

But lucky Nick saved his 2 goals for when he was playing for the right team!:D

That's what I like about you, Danni - you've got BALLS! ;) ;)

Nah rip - just extrememly stubborn, or extremely stupid.

It could easily have gotten out of hand with a father like that. It's just simply that the way I have been brought up and the way I have brought my child up includes never ever ever disprespecting a person the way this child did.

If I hadn't removed him from the ground there is every chance that any number of kids from both teams would have snotted him. So it was a no win situation. Risk the wrath of the parent, or risk the child getting hurt.

Regardless of what a little turd the kid may be, I could never knowingly put him in a situation where he could get hurt.

Brilliant job Danni on your coaching debut!

I look forward to seeing you run onto Colonial during Roos vs Lions to drag Jason Akermanis off the ground after David King gives him another football lesson ;)

:D

hehhe i remember the days of playing under 10's footy

We used to have zones too, and you weren't allowed to go out of them. But the field was so small, that the backs could kick goals themselves..

Looking back on it, it was funny sh*t, especially how most kids used to throw the ball up like a metre in the air and then try to kick it and half of them missed it

:p

Onya Danni,
what mastermind tactics did you come up with for the crunch game?

Did you implement the flood, did you use the huddle on kick in's or what? hehe
:D :D

LOL - Nothing as simple as that Nick....

Just had to remind the kids that if they all give their all they get Freddos as the end of the game! LOL
