Yeah, I like the look of the young guy. Shows a bit of promise. Did a bit round the ground as well.

With him and Patto firing, our ruck stocks suddenly don't look as bad (still need another one or two though for sure).

I honestly dont believe we need another ruckman...

We have both pattison and graham who have less then 50 games between them
and both are under 21.

I think we will pick up a ruckman through the draft and thats all we need for now.

what I like in our young rucksters is that they're both young an showing promise but are both currently at a very respectable playing weight. it shows both a willingness to kill it in the gym and potential to become deadset monsters with maturity and natural filling out. stick with em' both I say.

i reckon take a mid with our first pick and a ruck with our second or our #1 psd pick and we are set.

id much rather cotchin, masten, morton or palmer and then a decent ruckman.

You need 3 ruckman at all times. havent you learnt from this year?

Disagree. Thought he looked awful. Can't kick, no presence and had it not been for him being up against that hack Fraser he would have been a total liability.

Still, who cares. We won!!!!

Please consider its hes second game of football mate:thumbsu:

Ruckmen always seem to take alot longer to delevop.

I hope richmond let the kid get 50 games under hes belt before they judge him.

Hopefully the kid can play nearly every game next year and get some fitness and confidence and work on hes skills.

hear hear, but what a win against the scum

Yeah nothing special, but he hurts, and you can tell everytime he gave a free away he wasnt filthy at the umpire, he was filthy at himself.

He wants to learn and with that attitude he'll do ok. :thumbsu:

If Simmo is out for the year with this virus Gus can get some good experience.

You have no idea guts.

Gus broke a bone, probably in his ankle, in the first couple of minutes of the game against Colliwobblers and had half a dozen injections throughout the game. It was a great effort just to stay out there last night.

He is out for the rest of 2007.

He looks just like Pattison looked early - didn't know how to position himself in ruck contests, wasn't prepared to throw his body into the opposition ruckman enough, a bit lost in general around the ground. He'll keep improving though.

Patto at least got his hands on the ball in his first 10 games.
Graham was worst player on the ground on Fri night and I'm not saying that to dig the heels in to the kid. Just my opinion.
Had four innefective hitouts and three clanger possessions.
Looked like a fish out of water.

Patto only averaged 7.4 touches a game over his first 10 matches. Had 3 touches and 7 touches in his 2 games in 2005, only got more than 10 touches 4 times out of his 15 games in 2006 and was largely ineffective in the ruck. I still believe the similarities are there. Whether Gus can show the imrpovement Patto has is yet to be seen.

set your sights elsewhere tugg, there were plenty worse than a kid in his second game, just what level of expectation do you have?

I expect someone to at least show to me that he belongs on an AFL football field.
Graham looks like he belongs on King Island.
Respect your opinion BJ. More than you realise. But Graham aint gonna make it.

It'd be worth asking the question: How many other 20 year old rucks are there out there playing well at the moment? We need to be realistic about the expectations we have, there are very good reasons ruckmen aren't normally playing until they've been in the system for at least a few years. Sure he didn't contribute anything on Friday, but is that necessarily an indicator that he won't make it?

Jezz, I know what you're saying dude but sometimes you gotta trust your gut instinct. Mine tells me he's no good.
But I'm not the one who's calling shots so, hey, what would I know?

Fair enough. I know he's not good enough yet, but the improvement he's shown this year gives me hope that he can make it. He will certainly be better for the experience of a couple of AFL games.

All I know is he got dragged after five mins because he wasn't even making a contest in the centre square against that great imposing ruckman Josh Fraser :o
Patto comes on and competes.
Gus is a unit I'll give him that. Hope he comes good. Won;t be holding my breath about it.

I remember Patto being equally as ineffective and uncompetitive in his first couple of games.

Patto has never been uncompetitive.
Patto was dominating VFL level at CHF before he was elevated into the senior side. Won a Coburg B&F.
Graham was not.
Sorry Jezza, but comparing Gus to Patto aint gonna cut it.
