This is one guy I'd like to give some time...big bugger....finesse should come.
I'd hate to be facing the big fella.
Sometimes that's all you need.
Gus doesn't run the ball out of the guts, Foley does.

We'll have to agree to disagree then, because I have memories of Patto getting nowhere near it early in his career, as evidenced by a total of zero hitouts in his first two matches.

Fair enough Jezz.
Hope he comes good and sticks around. He certainly is a unit.

I havent seen the guy play but from what ive heard alone i reckon he will make it. I read somewhere that his work ethic rivals Nathan Foley and look where he has come from. Lets not 4get a classic example in dean cox coming from basically no where with many many doubters, the bloke could hardly kick a football not he is a all Australian ruckmen.

Still early days no doubt but b4 any1 sys he's not up 2 it at least give him a go

Speaking as someone who knows, (grew almost 9 inches in year 11!) most kids who grow quickly mature later. They need to "grow into" their new body shape and can look pretty unco until they are 21 or so. Also, young ruckmen immediately go up against older stronger bodies in the centre. No "softer" first few games tagging a half-forward goal sneak, instead they are banging away immediately. It would be very tough.
Some young ruckmen impact as 19 - 20 year olds but generally, they emerge at 21 - 22.
To me, Gus looks like developing into a classic tap ruckman.
Who was our last?

Patto at least got his hands on the ball in his first 10 games.
Graham was worst player on the ground on Fri night and I'm not saying that to dig the heels in to the kid. Just my opinion.
Had four innefective hitouts and three clanger possessions.
Looked like a fish out of water.
:thumbsd:

You even look like a Tugga now mate.

Gus was not dragged, or a fish out of water, he was out there with a cracked tibia that he copped in the first 5 minutes of the game.

It was operated on this morning.

Lots of guts and effort from this new kid and you should at least apologise for your jealous CRAP.;)

What a shame.... its pretty much back to pattison to do the job in the ruck again. Simmonds is still in doubt also for west coast.

Go son!

i reckon take a mid with our first pick and a ruck with our second or our #1 psd pick and we are set.

id much rather cotchin, masten, morton or palmer and then a decent ruckman.

i think we should take the best midfielder with our first - and either a tough midfielder or KPbackman with our 2nd.

i think we all forget we have the first pick with the psd - and i am still convinced that either of meesen or charman will be heading our way, one way or another.

we should also try and use a late pick and a rookie pick on a raw quick forward crumbing player.

if we can get meesen in the PSD - that will be such a huge bonus - will make the lost opportunity of kruezner sting a little less. get another 2 good midfielders, and we can keep deledio up forward(rotating through the midfield - which will mean he will avoid tags much more), take some pressure off tambling and use the remaining picks to pinpoint defence flaws and other area.

just don't get any more lightweight midfielders plz.

Guts and effort? No arguments here.
The game has passed the tap ruckman by.
I don't want another Knobel on our list.
Try reading something sloooooooowly next time.
That's right I'm jealous.:o

yep, but if you go back to Pattos first few games and also add Luke's first few games, you might see some similarities. Lets not forget, these kids come in and where they are used to the big guys being as big as them, are now facing up to pretty ****ing big gorillas coming at them. Imagine if you were a 200 cm rake and you are looking across the center circle at a 200cm mack truck....me thinks you are going to need a bit of time to get a grip on where you are at too. ;)

You have no idea guts.

Gus broke a bone, probably in his ankle, in the first couple of minutes of the game against Colliwobblers and had half a dozen injections throughout the game. It was a great effort just to stay out there last night.

He is out for the rest of 2007.

Well that is something of a mitigating factor isn't it. Still, doesn't exactly have me desperate for him stick around for 7 years (a la Guy Richards for whom I heard on radio tonight 2007 is his 7th year at the Pies - can this be true) in the hope that one day he'll be good.

Good luck to him blah blah blah, but have a look at that young bouncy ruckman for Freo who's played only a handful of games and really looks the part. That's what I want. If you're happy with someone standing in the circle and hoping that Foley can shark the opposition's tap then Gus is your man, on Friday's performance.

Harsh, but accurate. Apologies if it offends you.
