That would've given us pick 3 in 2010 National Draft. Take into account the 10 or so gun 17 year olds from the year before and other players they signed at will (Zac Smith, Trent McKenzie, Matera, Dixon, Weller, Russell, Tom Day...my God there's a heap) and someone like David Swallow might not have gone that high. Oh well, that's what we get for supporting a corrupt competition!!!! Oh well at least it helped blokes like Alex Johnson, Helbig, Nick Duigan and Puopolo get on a senior list!

St. Kilda might win a flag in the next 10 years, maybe, but that's debatable and a whole different topic. It's hard to see the Gold Coast not being a powerhouse before a number of Victorian based clubs even make a legitimate assault on the flag, which says alot about who the AFL really cares about to be honest.

I think the biggest problem at Richmond is the lack of leaders to mentor the youth in the group, whereas the Gold Coast have Ablett, Bock, Brown, Fraser, Brennan and others to guide there young guns. This is why Richmond will take longer to develop then other up and coming teams like North Melbourne, Fremantle, Melbourne and Essendon.

Actually surprised people are surpsised this may occur. AFL funded teams with open cheque books are what forced people like Benny Gale to say:-

*Lets clear our debt ($3million for 2 home games a yr in'11,'12,'13 interstate)
*FTF to get facilities and sports science up to A-Grade level
*Lets have some money for free agency and pay 100% of the salary cap instead of the 94% or whatever we pay now.

Based on the last three weeks or so, I agree, we are easily the worst team in the competition. Based on what we were doing earlier in the year, I would put us roughly on a par with North Melbourne.

It's part of the AFLs long term strategy. They need both Gold Coast and GWS to be successful on the field to ensure that they are successful off the field.

All other clubs have been sacrificed at the altar of expansion.

It won't just be Richmond that fails to win a flag before them, most clubs won't.

besides a flag is not assured finals spots absolutely but not a flag just look at the difference between the top 4 then rest of 8 let alone those outside finals chance's

top draft picks or buying people dont matter, its the culture of the club that matters aswell as training and long term development

if certain teams understood this they would have more flags besides the time frame is too short next 4-5 years good coast and GWS should be looking to finish in richmond (position formaly known as 9th)

I don't think there are any guarantees that Gold Coast will be a powerhouse in four years time. They have a ruckman, a midfielder and kid who kicks long. Most of them will get "homesick" in a couple of years.

I think this Gold Coast thing will unravel but we're a couple of years away from being able to say anything negative.
