If to be the best in the business he has to get the St. Kilda coaching job then where does that leave Collingwood? Without a quality assistant coach.

But if he finishes 4th in a large field, he's mediocre and should be moved on? What more do you expect? Him to get the job and then pass on it so that he can stay at Collingwood?

Coaching related?

He went final 4 for the hottest job in the country - a job that St Kilda had apparantly searched far and wide to fill.
Exactly, the expert panel they assembled rated him as the "weakest" contender... wow sign him up

And we are talking a long way behind, Longmire was the early leader, then Lyon and Bond fought it out and the panel said Longmire was a long way behind them, thats why McKenna went in to them to talk about how badly he did

Pathetic logic, it's been mentioned 52 people applied and he was in the final 4, who knows how close he got but seen as how a rank outsider in Ross Lyon got the job, it was probably a reasonably open race.

I think Bluey will be a senior coach within the next 5 years.

52 people may have applied but there was only a handful of serious applicants and he was deemed the worst of the lot.

Being the 4th best assistant coach (and now the 3rd according to the stupid logic) is not something to sneeze at.

And besides how can you possibly use the St. Kilda job as an example of someone's ability when you don't know the criteria they were using to employ a senior coach.

Obviously the criteria was to get the best available person to coach and guy obviously didnt not impress them enough to even get close to the job.

An expert panel assessed him as a very long way behind the other 3, there's really no positive spin for that

But whose to say that Guy's ability wasn't equal to Ross Lyon's? Perhaps Lyon had skills in other areas such as player discipline or fitness that were better than McKenna's? Perhaps McKenna's youth development was better than Lyon's?

Who knows. And that is why you can't use a job with unknown criteria to accurately judge somebody's ability compared to someone else.

Point me to a quote where it says "he finished a very long way behind the others".

If you have been following the reports in the media then Longmire was favoured at the beginning before Lyon was on the scene, as the process went on Lyon and Bond were very close and yesterday it was reported that Longmire and McKenna were a long way behind them, that also means McKenna was a long way behind Longmire who was initial favourite, it aint rocket surgery

And if you think i am going to cut into my valuable pr0n surfing time to sift through old reports that you should have read anyway if you wanted to debate this then think again sparky

So you don't have a quote then?

good luck

So you are basing your argument that "An expert panel assessed him as a very long way behind the other 3" on this quote from the Hun?

"It is understood Lyon narrowly beat Bulldogs assistant Chris Bond, with John Longmire and Guy McKenna further behind."

Gee that's some pretty rock solid evidence there:rolleyes:

That is merely one piece of the puzzle, Longmire was well ahead of Mckenna through out the process, simple deductive reasoning leaves McKenna dead last by a very long way... the dud of the bunch in other words

To put it simply you are making this up. There is no evidence besides the media's predictions that Longmire was ever the "favorite" for the job.

And even if you can find some evidence that this was the case, he finished last be a long way?
