If ever it became obvious how important Henry Playfair is to Geelong, it was yesterday.

We are alot more direct when he is in the mix at CHF, even if he isn't marking it.

Please ban Jack from this thread before he wrecks it, della to. Im sick of their s*** and am not in the mood for it.

It would be true that H wouldnt have one us that game, but he is so important to out structure. Just like Ottens, his presence is fantastic.

It was bad on Saturday and you could really notice it. Hunt would kick it in to Milburn or Rooke at CHB and then they'd pass it off to Tenace or someone in the midfield and there just wasn't anyone presenting at CHF. Where was Henry? He would have helped us a lot yesterday. Although he doesn't always get goals, he is good for that reason, presence and a target to get it into Ottens or Kingsley or S. Johnson.

As I said in another thread, although Gardiner makes alot of mistakes at times and was rightfully omitted, he presents hard and we lacked that yesterday.

Did not miss him last week against the kangaroos. He would have been handy with his 4 kicks.

Scarlett, Gardiner and King (99% of the game) missing from the week before and being replaced by on ballers was the reason we lacked forward presence, with Mooney playing back and Gardiner not there to present. In hindsight Gardiner stays in or is replaced by Lonergan. King was bad luck and Scarlett was a petulant little kid the week before and got his right wack so to speak.

There were plenty of times we came out of defence and had noone to kick to prestenting from half forward which is what H gives us. Doesnt have to mark it every time just present.

We missed him.

Looks like Lonergan might get his chance to do that role.

I thought it was 3 things - with Playfair injured, Scarlett suspended and then King injured, we suddenly looked a much smaller side (as you would expect). Only Ottens seemed prepared to run hard to present, but when he marked it he was 70m out and nothing further ahead. Scarlett's influence in the backline was noticeably absent too of course.

We might have missed Playfair's 4 kicks, but no more than we missed Gardiner dropping 3 chest marks and falling over 5 times. As I've said before - how many 6 foot 5 centre half forwards do we have? Last I checked it was only one. Be nice to have another big guy next to Ottens and the male model.

I love it when someone else saves me from typing a long post. Top stuff! :thumbsu:

I've said it many times in the past 12 months but I reckon this dude is the key to our premiership chances.

We might get away with it when the opposition match-ups are ok but Hank at CHF as the tall mobile leading option is the vital ingredient.

Personally, I think our selection comittee stuffed up by dropping Gardiner. He's not a true CHF but when Playfair is out we need Gardiner / Lonergan / McCarthy type bodies at CHF to keep our best team balance.

Obviously Lonners will coem in this week (well you'd hope) but my question is how in McCarthey traveling? I feel for this guy.

You actually might be onto something there. I mentioned in another thread that Charlie would've been useful on Saturday, because at least he presents and gives an option.

We lacked it big time last w/e.

No WAY! Gardiner is no use, sure he is a target up there but there's no point in getting it to him if he can't kick a darn goal and there's no one else out there for him to kick it onto. Plus half the time he doesn't mark it in the first place. And Mattie McCarthy I don't think is at AFL standard, although fair enough his size would be handy.

We do miss Henry for sure, but fingers crossed he'll be back sometime soon.
