Is there any truth in that Hall could be rested this Sunday?

With Michael O'Loughlin in doubt with an injury cloud, why on earth would they consider resting Hall for? It doesn't make any sense to me! We cannot afford to rest any players now.

Instead of resting Hall, why can't they drop players like Paul Bevan and Ben Mathews and bring in some youth like Matthew Laidlaw and Jarrad Moore?

No way Hall will be rested if Micky is not playing, who will kick goals then? If our midfielders arent the 'attacking' type according to previous posters

Sydney are likely to rest star forward Barry Hall for Sunday's AFL clash with Hawthorn, while Leo Barry is set to return from a five-week absence with a hamstring injury.

Sydney coach Paul Roos says with the Swans knowing they will finish either seventh or eighth after this week's final round of matches, Sunday's game is a good chance to ease Barry back into match fitness for the finals.

While Hall has been carrying a groin injury, Roos says the co-captain now also has a hamstring problem and a week's rest is on the cards ahead of a knockout elimination final the following weekend.

Veteran forward Michael O'Loughlin, who coughed up blood after a heavy landing last week against Collingwood, is expected to play this week.

But small forward Amon Buchanan is on report and faces a tribunal hearing on Tuesday night if the Swans elect to contest a rough conduct charge.

Roos said premiership defender Tadhg Kennelly is unlikely to recover from a knee injury in time to play against the Hawks.

"We've clearly got to play a game this week against Hawthorn but we know we are in the finals, we know we can't finish better than seventh or eighth," Roos said today.

"So really the main focus for us this week is to prepare for the following week and use this game on the weekend in order to do that.

"What you do is make sure with our medical meetings, being able to pick guys who are 100 percent fit.

"If there is any doubt whatsoever it does give you an opportunity to do that.

"We've got some players who are sore and probably Hally is the main one at the moment that you might not see on Sunday.

"Given the weekend's results (assuring Sydney of a finals spot), I'd say it'd be doubtful that he'll play this week."

Got that off the Roos board

Makes perfect sence to me.
When you're guaranteed to finish 7th or 8th and your major goal scorer is knackered, your performance in the finals is all that counts.
Winning or losing in rd 22 has no concequence and only risks further knackering of an allready knackered player.
Rest Hall and save your elimination final backsides.

You'd like that wouldn't you, seeing as how it makes your chances of snagging that top four spot soooo much easier ;)

dude, this is the perfect opportunity to rest players. we are in the finals, 7th or 8th regardless. Blokes are playing injured, fatigued and sore, so resting them is the perfect solution to freshen them up for finals, and the perfect opportunity to give some younger players more game time. Otherwise they are just flat out gonna be totally buggered come first final week. Roosy has also alluded to this himself.

Oh, hello mr geelong supporter, we all know why you've got something to say about this:rolleyes:
The last thing geelong wants is for Hawthorn to finish 4th.

I'll only support it if Matthew Laidlaw, Tim Schmidt and Jarrad Moore are the inclusions, otherwise. NO Deal. :D

Bring it on :D

Hello, this is the SWANS BOARD, not the Main Board or Bay 13. Discuss the merit of the Swans resting players all you like, discuss whatever you want about the Swans, but DON'T BRING you own club's arguements onto this board or you'll cop infractions and find the posts removed.

UNDERSTAND?

Settle down! It was all tongue in cheek stuff :)

FWIW, it's not going to affect your finals campaign win or lose this week, but if a week off will have BBBB freshened up for your first final you'd be mad not to give him a rest. As your form has shown all year, you really need him up and about if you're going to be back in amongst it when we get down to the second last week.

I guess its going to depend on how Micky O is traveling, but even so, you'd have to back yourself to win at home even if those two guys are both out.

Who would you fellows be looking at to kick the goals if neither of them do play? (Apart from Nick 'bloody' Davis of course ;)) Perhaps Spider to have an extended run up forward? Goodes to play at HF?

Obviously ROK, Davis and Schneider (if he plays) would have to be our main go to guys and then we'd need our midfielders to kick a some aswell.. (oh crap).

Why would we want to rest Hall.

His injury can't get any worse he is just starting to find some form good game against Brissy except poor kicking and was solid on Saturday night kicked 4 and given some of the delivery to him thats not a bad effort. Why are resting him after 2 of his best games for the season wouldn't it be better idea to let him play and continue to regain his touch rather than rest him and have him possible struggle in the first final.

I've been happy with his form but the last couple of weeks he has missed some really easy goals at important stages of the game. It's just a little frustrating.

26 goals, 16 behinds this year.

He is going fine.

That has nothing to do with what i'm talking about. The last 2 weeks he has missed easy shots on goal at important times in the games. I know that alot of them have, but seeing as his name was bought up i thought i'd mention it.

that might've been me saying that they'd been so darn disappointing this year, it was time to axe them....but then, they're just two of about 15
