Just Keen to know some Opinions on whether Geelong would be interested in McIntosh although he is currently injured it appears that even when fit Brad Scott prefers Goldstein over him. Having played just over 100 games and only 27 does anyone beleive that he fits Geelong's needs as No1 Ruck providing help for West in 2013

Is trading for McIntosh an Option?

How did you come to that conclusion?

In Brad Scott's presser last week he basically said that Hamish would be competing for a spot in our forward line because he was no longer going to try the two-ruck combo. He won't get games ahead of Petrie, Hansen and Tarrant in the forward line i would think because he doesn't offer much at ground level. To maximise his game time he should be looking elsewhere in 2013. Most roos supporters would whinge about that because we don't really have adequate backup in goldy goes down. He is also contracted for next year.

Am I mixing things up? But didn't they have McIntosh in the ruck and Goldstein down forward last year? And Goldstein lost the impact he had on games when he rucked?

Hamish played one game in 2011. It was the last round of the year against Richmond. Goldstein Rucked the whole year last year and excelled.

Hamish came back this year and they were sharing the ruck load but Goldstein's impact on games was severely limited so he found himself in the two's. Hamish went down with a knee injury against the dogs. since then Goldstein has carried the ruck role and gone back to dominating at the stoppages again (with his tapwork).

When Hamish was in the side, he had good impact up forward and good link up around the ground. Gets more possessions and more goals than Goldstein, but Goldstein's tapwork is just so important to us. Hamish would excel given a permanent number 1 ruck-role IMO

If he is looking @ his options for 2013 and is contracted as you say what sort of deal do you believe would get him to Geelong if we were interested ?

No, too injury prone, too old (probably only has 2 or 3 years left in him given said injuries) and is contracted so would cost too much.

I don't disagree with the idea that we need to look at getting another good ruckman in to help West, but he is the wrong target.

1st round pick minimum which is too much to give up.

The obvious destination for him would be for the Roos to try and send him plus something to GWS for the minidraft, outside of that I can't see established clubs giving up a lot for an injury prone 28 year old ruckman.

Minson would be cheaper and is at least durable though I don't rate him as much.

Other than that if you're going to give up something significant for a ruckman it should be someone younger you'll get a lot more years from e.g. Clarke Lycett etc. I'd go for Bellchambers but the Bombers would be nuts to give him up.

Could we get it done with a mid-range 2nd Rounder?

Its really hard to determine his value because of his injuries. I'd say most roos supporters and the club over-rate him a fair bit. I'd be happy for him to go for a late-first rounder.

His knee injury this year was a bit of a freak accident. Before his achillies injury he was a very very durable footballer. His pre-season this year was the best he has had in his career. Most supporters were really surprised with how fit he was at the start of this year.

As much as I love McIntosh as a player he's too old for our team model and too injury prone.

At 29 we would only get another 2-3 years out of him and how much of those he would even play is a huge question mark.

West has proved this year he can do an adequate job carrying the ruck. We also have Vardy coming back and Simpson waiting in the wings. I think we just have to back these guys and hope for the best.

Cheers for that mate, I just really rate the guy and had hoped that with him needing a chance the Cats may look at him

Considering our 2nd rounder is likely to be 35-45, no.

He's contracted so even if he wants out and doesn't want to play vfl, the Roos have the whip hand. They effectively got pick 27 for Hale, and you can bet they'd want more for Hamish.

Beyond price the major issue is age anyway. Our next real cotending period is likely to be in 3 years or so by which time Hamish will be retiring. Which is why I said if we're looking to bolster our rucks we need to look at someone afl ready and capable yes, but not someone the wrong side of 27.

True we need to back Westy in...I was more thinking Vards could play CHF over the next few years instead of 2nd ruck given his Hip injuries and the fact Geelong need him for the next Decade after Pods retires but that was before Walker put his hand up so Vards may play 2nd ruck resting in the forward line

Fair call P.O

Simpson is the key though. He has the size to be a number 1 ruck where the others don't really and although Vards and West are good around the ground neither will be able to be top tap ruckman.

If Simpson doesn't come up to scratch then I think we would need to start looking. But by all accounts the kid can dominate games at VFL level and just needs to get a fitness base up for 2013.

Not trying to be a smart arse, but Dawson Simpson and Nathan Vardy. I want them to get games next year. I want the pressure to be put on them, like it was this year on West, that a senior spot is there's and that they are expected to produce. If they don't have it, they don't have it. But, at the rate we're going, we're never going to find out.

I like him as a player, but he is pretty injury prone. He's said he wants to stay at North which I can't understand. He's going to be stuck behind Goldstein, Petrie and Tarrant for the rest of his career. If I were him I would be screaming out for a talented club where he could be the no. 1 ruckman like us or Hawthorn, but I guess he's got good mates at North.

Jamar is a player I hope Geelong are at least looking into, but he's said he doesn't want to move either and he wouldn't come cheap.

Jamar has re-signed.

I think Clarke is contracted but I wonder if he might try to come back home if Ross keeps him in the WAFL?

Ideally you need to look at someone where they aren't going to be #1 at their club and we can offer them more opportunity (which we can as West is flexible to play either primarily ruck or ruck/fwd to a high standard) and where you can leverage them out for a low cost (i.e. they are out of contract, or the club has a surplus of rucks). Examples of this might be the Dogs with 4 rucks, something has to give there, GC's surplus of young rucks and so on.

That's the problem Simpson hasn't come up to scratch, not mobile enough for the big time.

Isn't there one at Freo or GC like Gorringe, think that's how it's spelled but you know the one!
And I reckon you're right in your assessment of Vardy and West. They're number two's and possible keys not your first rucks.

Simpson only played a couple games after missing half the year through injury and playing 2 (I think) VFL games. He dominates at VFL level not just at the stoppages but around the ground but hasn't got the tank for AFL right now.

I will reserve judgement on him till next year because he needs to get a big Pre-season under his belt before we can decide if he is up to scratch or not.
