I was wondering the thoughts you had of Hammers game today?
I believe he needs more time in the 1s to develop.
He shows great athleticism a great grab today and what a goal. His second and third efforts after competing in the ruck is what we have needed for a long time.
I think perservering with Hammer will only improve him, his self belief and the team.

He looked very good today, definitley more than serviceable and if he can kick goals like the one he did then I'll be laughing all the way to a 17th Flag.

I think whilst he may see it our for another 3 or 4 weeks despite Sauces fitness I can see him being immediately dropped for Robbie Warnock when he's fit and ready to go.

So the onus is now up to him to play really well moreso in the ruck than anywhere else so that he can keep his place cause I do bloody love him.

His effort can never be questioned and he took a good mark and kicked a good goal today.

Still a long way to go and once Warnock is fit, I think Hampson will struggle to get a regular game.

He's getting better but his hands are still pretty bad. Dropped a few marks early and fumbled it a bit, otherwise, he's damn fast and a great tap ruckman.

I'm starting to have visions of Hammer doing a serviceable job in the ruck ,than going to the bench to be replaced by Robbie Warnock and glancing down the forward line to see the Kruze taking a screamer and slotting his 4th.:thumbsu:

Our best tap ruckman with Warnock injured and miles better than Jacobs around the ground.

Struggled early with his hands and in the forwardline, but looks a ruckman.

It will be a luxury to have two athletic rucks who chase and can push forward to take a mark.

And then there's Warnock. :thumbsu:

His best game yet. Has improved a lot. Is ahead of Jacobs now as he's a useful forward. I'd like to see him ruck more and Kreuzer play more forward.

His tap work is much improved and is now quite good.

Good game. 25 taps or so, and a lot of them to our advantage. He looks closer to 203cm now. Was impressed when he moved forward. If his development continues Kruezer and Hampson could be an awesome ruck combo. Both are very dangerous up forward and good at ground level. :)

Not the best day to be judging his ruckwork considering the opposition but his work around the ground was pretty good. Problem with Hammer is I cant ever see him getting a game above Kreuzer, Warnock or even Jacobs. I dont want to turn the boy into tradebait but I think that alot of other clubs that dont quite have the ruck stocks that we do would be keen to get hold of him. Would love to see a top pick come our way via GC :)

I thought his effort at the ball was excellent, made plenty of contests around the ground that jacobs wouldnt have impacted. Moved into the #2 slot for mine. Marking wassnt great but at least he took one. We'll see how warnock goes when he returns, but im comfortable with hammer.

Hammer rekindled my enthusiasm today. Yes, he's dropping those marks he shouldn't (the ****ing ball is getting to him before anyone else after all). But he is using his great mobility to better advantage, can kick a booming goal (nearly swallowed my ****ing lamington when that sailed through) and as mentioned, his tap-work is improving fast. He looks a lot happier and more a part of the group out there too. :thumbsu:

I think he's finally starting to believe he can play at the highest level, and he is getting better. Think he'll only improve by playing with the Carlton team now, and that's where he should be played for the rest of the year with Kreuzer.

Took a great mark and finished off with a goal. He's so quick over the ground, and running to spoil Lockyer on the lead was all class.

Just makes you wonder - could you have Warnock, Hampson and Kreuzer in the same 22?

Hampson and Kreuzer having spells up forward, whilst Warnock plays in the ruck, and is benched when he needs a break.

Makes me think what we will do with all these ruckmen;
Hampson
Krooooz
Knockers
Sauce
and then theres Cloke, who will probably find him self on the scrap heap unless something extraodinary happens.
I reckon if Knockers shows he is what we htink he can be, Sauce will head back to S.A, probably with Port. He would struggle to get a game here and there was talk Port were keen on him in last years rookie draft.

I posted this on another thread - "thought Hampson took big steps forward for us today - wasn't great but was ok. in 3-4 weeks when Warnock becomes available, we want Hampson fit and firing - imagine if you will Fev (a fit and focussed kind), Waite and Kruezer as a forward lineup for opposition coaches to get their heads around!!"
With Austin, Bower, Jamo and Thornton as defensive talls (and possibly Setanta) and Joseph, Walker (when fit), Grigg, Armfield, Scotland as smalls we have the ability to play Waite forward - which to me has been a long time coming and was clearly vindicated today. Add to that the big Kruez and we have a strong marking forward setup that is fast and agile enough to apply F50 pressure. Hampson (17th pick) and Warnock (24th) playing alongside each other would stretch opposition rucks as well as any!

Very promising.

Continues to show signes of marked improvement in each and every senior game that he plays. We have to keep playing him in the seniors for as long as possible because he's really going to learn a lot in each and every senior game that he plays.

He's showing signs as a tap ruckman but also as a forward which is fantastic.

One thing he has really struggled with in the past is holding on to the football, and whilst you could see he still struggles with this, there's no doubt he's improving. I'm not sure whether it's poor technique (I'm inclined to think this is not it), a lack of confidence, or something else but he does fumble the ball a fair bit which is disappointing and something I'm sure he will continue to work on.

The grab he took in the 3rd quarter out on the 50 metre line on the boundary was really good as it showed us a few things. Firstly, he CAN take a grab, which is why I said I don't think him dropping the ball so much is due to poor technique. Secondly, he is attacking the ball more and more which indicates he may be getting more confident in himself. Apologies for raining on his parade but I suspect that the goal was a little bit of a fluke as he rushed into the shot after looking to pass it off for a little while. Regardless, kudos to him for taking the shot and not only keeping it accurate but making the distance. If he can slot some more like that then I'll change my opinions about whether or not it was a fluke, until then I remain unconvinced.

He has a 200cm, 100kg frame at his disposal and he needs to use it. Jump at the ball, burst some packs open and make your opponents think twice before dropping into the space in front of you if you are playing the role of a leading forward.

Another thing to note is the improvement of his contributions in the middle. He is getting his hands to the ball at stoppages which is really encouraging as he is gaining a greater understanding of what he has to do in the ruck. I know he was rucking against some ordinary opposition but it was still a very good effort by Hammer to get 20+ hitouts. Hopefully he plays a fair bit in the ruck next week against Adelaide as although their rucks are better than what he was up against today, they still aren't the greatest.

Well done to Hammer on his improvement and well done to the MC for persisting with him. It's starting to show that it could really pay off in the future. Never underestimate the impact of having a few 200cm athletic monsters in your team that can play forward and in the ruck.

I think Kroooze will make a nice move into CHF once Warnock comes in.

Hammer and Warnock rucking together.

A spine which reads the following..

Jammo

Waite/Aussie/Bower

Judd/Gibbs

Kruuuuze/Waite

Fev

Impressive aint it!;)

Liking what i'm seeing thats for sure. Yes, he did fumble a fair bit early but working into it pretty well taking a good grab and kicking a lovely goal. The thing i like is that he can at least get himself into a position to do something, unfortunately Jacobs really doesn't. Hampson chases very well also. Ruck work was great today.

I think if Hammer gets his hands sorted out, there is absolutely no reason why he, Kreuzer and Warnock can't play in the same side.

We've spent countless hours on this board fretting about where our next tall forward target is going to come from. Well, forget Hartlett, forget Wiggins, forget Cloke....It will be Hammer and Kreuzer and they will be some handful for defenders given their size and mobility. Wouldn't it be fantastic to see Kreuze at CHF, with Hammer streaming out of the square with Fev? Potentially nightmare matchups for the opposition. Either way, its up to Hammer now to take his chances, keep improving and show us what he can do.

Re Hammer's hands, that grab showed that he can take a mark. I don't think it's a problem with his skills, but maybe more that he's thinking too hard about taking the grab and then stiffening up, which would be understandable given he's fairly new to the game at this level. Hopefully that mark will give him a bit of confidence and he'll relax and things will start to stick a bit easier.

Bruuuuce. :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
ahahaha! Delicious! ;):thumbsu:

Was very impressed with Hammer's second and third efforts today. Not only was he strong overhead today, but his defensive pressure in the forward line was also very helpful.

Played his best game for the club. Was good in the ruck and his 2nd and 3rd efforts were great. The grab and kick from 50 were very, very good. Fevola like.

He is still a junior however, and does drop some marks he should take. But all in good time. Definitely deserves a few games. Hopefully he backs it up next week.

Well done Hammo!
