Happy Birthday Moz

Happy Birthday to the legend that is Dale Morris.

I just want to ask one question, where does Morris rate in the bulldogs history?

Go
Obviously we rate him extremely highly. Being able to play tall and short. Most notably switching between Riewoldt and Milne in the late 2000's. He played a huge role with a broken back to help us win our first Premiership since 1954. And his chase down tackle on Buddy will be spoken about in Bulldogs folk lore forever.

But from a statistical standpoint. One runners up best and fairest and one All Australian selection in 2008. Doesn't come close to our other champions of our club. Or even close to what Lake has produced. But I think he will be remembered as one of our best pure defenders in our clubs history. An even better bloke also. Happy birthday Moz. A Bulldogs legend.

Funny that, cos in a team of the century I'd have Moz in there but Lake wouldn't be in consideration - even before being a premiership player

I think that is partially because of how Lake left, and your bias might be coming through a little bit.

I love Moz. I think he's elite and an absolute legend of the club. But Lake, as a footballer, was better than him. Maybe not for as long, but Lake's level was incredible.

The key defensive player in a Premiership. Great finals performer and big game player. Widely respected by his peers, the media and fans. Loved by all who've coached him. He'll forever be a true great of our club.

I'm not that upset about how Lake left, his level was right up there - but not as long as Moz has been an elite defender. Criminally under-rated, I'm actually serious I'd pick Moz in a team before Lake

Lake and Moz are completely different players.

I will say though that Lake was only able to play the way he did with the help of Moz or someone of his ilk.

Moz is one of the most natural pure defenders I have every seen. His speed, instinctual body positioning and strength are incredible. Go to the footy and simply watch him play. Forget the flashy marks and kicks and focus on the little things and his courage. Mind blowing stuff week in, week out.

Agree - would take Morris first any day of the week.

Versatility aside, he is a heart and soul type player. Wouldn't stop playing his role whether it's cramping with a broken back in the final quarter of a granny or 50 points down with a minute to go. Consummate team player and the definition of a teammate any player would love to have.

Heart and soul. Just could not find a bad word about him. With his longevity in the game, the love for him is reaching Chris Grant level. Much like Boydy and Crossy they leave nothing in the tank. They've dripped every last bit of their talent, passion and hard work dry. A great and inspiring example.

Lake's best was better than Scarlett but his fire burnt out too soon. Moz has the best body spoil though. You see it when a forward is leading at full pace. Moz will be behind him body spoiling (nudging with his chest so not be penalised). The player disrupted - causing him to misjudge the leap.

Lake's best was better but Morris performed at a high level for longer and more consistently. Morris goes down as our greatest ever defender in my book.

Vital cog of a Premiership defense. Played with a broken vertebra. Iconic tackle on Franklin which lead to the game sealer. The rare combination of beloved clubman and first class footballer.

Won’t ever get the credit he deserves from the broader football public (although does get a little), but should be a first ballot Bulldog HoF.

Dale laid the best tackle in our entire history on October 1, 2016.
