With the way the cards fell are you happy we didn't trade for Richmond's and Melbourne's first pick?
Code:
Carlton - Marc Murphy (Oakleigh Chargers)
Collingwood – Dale Thomas (Gippsland Power)
Hawthorn – Xavier Ellis (Gippsland Power)
Carlton - Josh Kennedy (East Fremantle)
Collingwood – Scott Pendlebury (Gippsland Power)
Hawthorn – Beau Dowler (Oakleigh Chargers)
Essendon - Patrick Ryder (East Fremantle)
Richmond - Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls (East Perth)
Brisbane - Mitchell Clark (East Fremantle)
Fremantle – Marcus Drum (Murray Bushrangers)
Western Bulldogs – Shaun Higgins (Geelong Falcons)
Melbourne – Nathan Jones (Dandenong Stingrays)
West Coast – Shannon Hurn (Central District)
Hawthorn – Grant Birchall (Devonport)
Geelong - Travis Varcoe (Central District)
Adelaide - Richard Douglas (Calder Cannons)
Adelaide - Darren Pfeiffer (Norwood)
Hawthorn – Max Bailey (West Perth)
Essendon – Courtenay Dempsey (Morningside)
Carlton – Paul Bower (Peel Thunder)
Marcus Drum or Nathan Jones wouldn't have been a bad get, but Bower wouldn't have lasted to 20 if we had another pick or two.Whilst they offer potential, we'd be on a hiding to nothing without our mature bodies and exposing them to senior footy before they're ready to play.

Cue Richmond and Dees fans who say they weren't interested or offering our first pick or picks!

Fev to the dogs for picks 11 and 27

ND

#1 M. Murphy
#4 J. Kennedy
#11 S. Hurn
#20 P. Bower
#27 B. McKinley/J. Edwards
#36 J. Edwards/M. Laidlaw

Hmmmmm ??

Happy we kept Fev, not happy with kept Lance.

We could have had Nathan Jones or Shannon Hurn for him and still potentially snapped up Bower at 20.

Oh well, hopefully he can prove me wrong and have a big year next year.

Jones would have been very good and I could see him playing good footy next year. But if we had have taken Varcoe or Pfeiffer we may have missed out on getting the key defender we urgently need.

Would it have been worth our while to have traded Fev for Drum?

Longterm it sounds like Drum will be a terrific player and a leader.;)

I agree with this.
Disagree! Lance can still be a match winner on his day and how can you be so sure that Jones or Hurn will make it?? Sure their junior credentials stack up but have seen many potential stars fall victim to the pressure of AFL footy. If Lance & Fev can both turn it on next season along with the continued emergence of Fisher, Waite etc then we are on the road to recovery. Lance is also good insurance at CHB where we need to improve more than the midfield where we have Kouta, Stevo, Bentick, Simpson, Walker, Scotland and now Murphy to fly the flag. So in answer to the question I for one am happy we kept both Lance & Fev:thumbsu:

When did Lance actually win us a match? And where is he going to play this year? Our forward line is based around Fevola, with Waite and Fisher secondary targets and Betts crumbing. The trend in the league is towards small, mobile forward lines to combat flooding. Whitnall is simply too slow to have an impact in modern football. And if we want a crash and bash type player, Kennedy fits that bill as a target at CHF.

The trend on the half-backline is for players who can run through the lines. We have acquired Saddington for this role, in addition to Lappin, Bower, Carrazzo and probably Walker. Lance can't play on the full-back line because of his lack of pace (can you see him standing Nathan Brown?). So he'll end up playing as a specialist loose man in defence. An expensive, red-headed version of Jason Cloke

We could have traded him for a draft pick used to get Shannon Hurn or Nathan Jones. In addition, we would have got freed up salary cap space for next year. Not trading him may prove to be one of the worst decisions we have made (and we've made some shockers!).

Only benefit is we may be able to trade him next year in a supposedly better draft year. Of course, he'll be a little bit older, and unless he performs this year his trade value will be lower, whilst his salary will be the same. Just have to wait and see...

Personally I think Fevola is a cancer within the team who needs to be traded for us and him to improve. His trade value will be equally high next year though, so its probably worth giving him one last shot to turn it around, knowing we can still get a first-rounder for him in 12 months time.

Was Round 2 actually, and it had nothing to do with Eddie Betts and the fact that Hird was so underdone!

OK, we'll give you that one for Big Red, got any other nominations for the previous three seasons?

I thought Betts won the game actually, and if it wasn't for that we'd still be eligible for the real priority pick next year ... *ducks*

We were really keen to get Hurn, and to think we could've had him with Melbourne's pick 11. Imagine it. Murphy, Kennedy and Hurn with our first 3 picks.

Instead, we have Whitnall..... :o
