as a pinch hitting forward? With Eagan at CHB would it be worth putting him as a roving forward on the teams that dont play tall in the backline to stretch defences. I know he can play on small forwards too (ala matera the little rat) But if we threw him down in the forward pocket for half a quarter it could severly ******** the other teams matchups. Now I am not slating a permanent move up forward but the backline is going on okay without him and imagine having to match up on a forward line like

Chapman Playfair Kingsley
Harley Ottens Ablett

You need three and a half (kingsley) talls plus too small defenders. That is pushing any defence in the league.

Harley is a terrible kick for goal, it has been tried before. Play him off half back and use Milburn or Mooney as pinch hitters across half forward instead.

LOL, so are Kent and H, should we play them down back too? :p

Nah i like me idea :)
Chuck in G ablett as well, it just seems that he is always kicking 1.3 or 1.4

And how bloody frustrating is that! He always seems to be kicking for goal under pressure, too. His finishing skills are better than that. He missed one or two on the weekend that he really should have nailed.

Make no mistake, when Harley returns – and if he returns to be the player he formally was – he will be very, very handy to this side. It releases Mooney or Dasher to play up the ground and in the midfield more. It means we have 3 very high quality tall defenders which is such a rarity. We can play a side like St Kilda and have Scarlett on Gehrig, Harley on Hamill and Egan on Riewoldt (or any other combination).

I have my doubts that we’ll see Tom back to the player he was 2 years ago, but I still have my fingers crossed because it makes us that much tougher a side to play against.

dont get me wrong I know he is at home in the backline and it is his best position. But I would like to see him in with Dash and Mooney as a versatile player who can go forward and back.

I dont mind your idea. It would be good to see Tommy float across the pack and take a contested mark like he does in the back line, however i too have my doubts that Tommy will ever return to the player he once was.

Will be a very handy inclusion back into the side when he's fully fit!

At the Season Launch function, they said they expect him to playing football by Round 6.

Tom said in an interview a week or two ago that he's hoping to be back in the VFL by Rd4 and in the seniors around Rd 6 or 7.

When he came back into the side at the end of last year after missing a big chunk of the year he didn't miss a beat. If he is given the luxury of stepping back into the side and playing on a half back flank tacking the 3rd tall he will create havoc. Let's not forget, his best is very very good and that's at CHB so playing on a flank will free him up and give him a new lease on life.

That way it allows Moondog to roam the ground and Dasher to pinch hit up forward. Two things that will be very handy come September.

Harley doesn’t play well up forward. I reckon, when he gets back, they should have Harley at CHB and Egan at Full Back. That gives Scarlett (who would probably play better up forward than Harley) a chance (but also that wont happen much). Also, coz Josh Hunt is such a great kick, I think we should play him up forward a bit more. But I know, he is very valuable when he does the kick-ins that go 60 metres and right onto a Geelong midfielders chest.

Egan has allowed both Scarlett and Harley to do what your sugest. The run forward is covered by Egan. The thing is others have a point on his kicking for goal. He never looks real comfortable and Im not sure he ever will. His marking would be handy though and he could be used to break backlines setups.
