... pulled a whole fingernail out?

And if so, did it grow back ok?

I recently mashed my finger in a door and long story short, the nail was kinda flapping and was giving me all sorts and didnt look like it was going to knit back properly, so i ended up pulling it out.

I saw a doc yesterday about something unrelated, but did ask him and he said it will probably be a bit deformed when it grows back. The finger is structually fine, so i do not see why my nail wouldnt grow back normally?!

Anyone?

It will grow back normally. If you jammed it above the nail then the first new nail will be a bit deformed but after that, honky dory.

Nope never done that. The worst I've done is bruised my finger under the nail, looked like I had green and purple nail polish on for a while. And friggin HURT. :(

Ta. Crunched it pretty much from the first knuckle to the end of the finger. Things we do when drunk!! :o

I was amazed at how long it was when i pulled it out. Came from suprisingly deep underneath the skin.

I dropped a BBQ hotplate on my Big toe 10 years ago and the nail did much the same as yours ...

It didn't grow back properly and still gives me trouble today :(

I had a cricket ball on my big toe nail about 2 years ago. It fell off and hasn't grown back right. It gives me the *****s.

Yeah, like others somehow managed to rip out my big toenail when I was a fair bit younger and the thing looks fine now (well, as fine as feet can look - damn ugly things).

Ewww yuck.

To answer your question Carlos, no I haven't.

But I have seen that happen to others.

I bet that it kills like mad.

A couple of months ago after checking the water in my radiator I closed the bonnet on my finger. It actually clicked shut so I could not open it. I called to my housemate a couple of times but she didn't hear me so I called her on my mobile. She came outside and opened the bonnet so I could get my finger out. I was very lucky in that she usually left for work before me but for some reason that day had been delayed. Otherwide I could have been standing all day with my finger in the bonnet. My finger was as flat as a pancake and it was bleeding under the nail. A month later the nail just dropped off. :D

Once my big toe, once a finger - both times it grew back mostly OK.

Yep - got hit on the finger at cricket practice batting in the nets a couple of months ago.

Took a while to die, and then I ripped it out at the roots - is growing back fine now

A dog bit me a few years back and it ripped the nail off my finger and it grew back normally;)

I did the old finger in the car door trick. There used to be quite a big kink in the nail, looking at it now there's nothing, pretty sweet.

My dad hadn't cut his toenails in ages, and he got it stuck on something on the floor, ending up ripping the whole toenail out of his big toe! Ouch! Anyway, it has grown back, but it doesn't look the same as the other toenails.

i lost a toenail when i pulled a door over my foot
& no it didin;t grow back correctly
interestingly most of the posts seem to say fingernail =ok, toenail not

Slammed my thumb in a door when I was a youngster. Lost the nail and now whilst the nail is smooth the top part of the nail (where it joins the pink bit) is fairly wonky. The nail itself is also VERY hard (compared to the others).

ripped big toe nail off twice. grew back strange but it gradually fixed over time because now they are both normal.

arrgh it flipping caned tho. i was riding a bike with no shoes on and i had the pedal down low and went over a gutter and it stubbed it and i thought '**** that hurt a bit' then i looked down and i see i have no nail, it was bleeding heaps. but after the stinging went away i just had to be careful as not to hit it on anything while the nail grew back.

Toenail, big toe, I was 9. Slammed a car door shut, bare foot in the door.. didn't tickle.

Bastard turned blue, then purple, then black, then kinda just fell out.

It grew back normal, pity I didn't. :D

I slammed the one thumb in a door three separate times as a 5/6 year old. Each time the nail fell out. Each time it grew back fine.

You think you'd have learned the first time.;)

Guy I went to school with 10 or so years ago chopped the top part off his finger. Probably about a centimetre or so. fingernail grew back out the top of his finger.

Had my little toe-nail completly come off after dropping something on it. Came back fine, I guess it depends on luck and how your nails grow.

:D :D how funny would that look

Nail

Cut my index finger pretty badly one day and had to get sticthes. That didnt hurt at all compared to when the doc gave me an anestetic ???? underneath myt fingernail.
