With GV teams winning both matches against O and M opposition on the weekend, is it time to renew debate over the merits of both competitions.

Shepp United had the better of Wang Rover, while an Anthony Stevens-less Benalla came from 4 goals down at half time to defeat Wangaratta (a top three O and M chance) by 20 odd points.

There was a time when defeats by GV clubs against their O and M opposition were rare indeed.

Have you nothing better to do that gratify yourself in this public domain Jock's Netballers? I suppose you're claiming credit for the Saints win too!

3 posts to your name and already you're a keyboard hero. Big future you've got !

Only practice matches and wouldn't really count them much towards the arugement. Sort of game you should use to judge superiority would interleague games at senior level, like the VCFL Country Cahmpionships for example.

Unfortunately now with the poorly conceived round-robin series, a game of two 20 minute halves does nothing to prove anything...

However, it's fair to say a lot shouldn't be read into practice matches....

During practise matches players try as hard as they would in a Grandfinal, when your out on the ground you dont care what sort of game it is you wanna play well and win.

Practise matches are fairly good indication as to what sides are better especially in the GV O&M area as everyone really wants to see what sides from which league a better. Sure they dont always put there best players out on the field but there not far off, i would think the comparison between the 2 leagues can be made a by the praccy games, there aint nothing wrong by going with pre season results.

cheers

I agree with you tige, only after an indication and not exactly which teams would beat each other between leagues. Players should be trying harder in the praccy's to impress their new coaches and get in the side come round 1.

Wouldnt read anything into the joke of a VCFL championship though. The top players between the legues are probably pretty similar standard, its the side with the better battler's that will win the game.

Hey crudbucket. I only post things when I feel it's necessary. Rest assured I've been watching you and your buddy for a while. I think your name aptly describes your knowledge and brainpower for that matter.

By the way, who do you think the O and M matches up against the GV. Come on mate, if you're prepared to jaw-off, pit them head to head . . . a SWAT analysis if you like.

Just to add fuel to the fire can I bring you up to date with a couple of scores from matches between O and M and GV sides at the weekend.
On Good Friday, Wang Rovers, who I don't expect to make the five this year, rolled Shepp Bears by 10 goals at Wang and the following day Corowa-Rutherglen stitched up GV premiers Mansfield by about four goals.
Mansfield didn't have Darren Hulme, Fraser Stevenson and a couple of other handy goers, but did have Trent Hotton, David Mensch and Andrew Tranquilli on deck.
Shepp Bears had close to a full side also.
What does that all mean?

What it means is that Shepp Bears are gonna be terrible and Mansfield where missing a few guns. Calling Hulme a goer is arrhhh quite silly, i would assume he would gather almost 30 touches automatic, Mansfield will be up there this year as will Corowa so the resuly doesnt suprise. Also Benalla beat Wang Rovers the other week with out Stevens,Cosham,Downey,B.Stevens and about 6 other senior blokes so i mean there are a few ways we can look at things.

cheers

Actually Benalla beat Wang Magpies, not Rovers...B.Stevens did play, however he suffered a corked thigh just before quarter time and was rested from around then on.

Shepparton will be alright, but won't be top three...just for interests sake, here's my 2005 predictions

Seymour
Mansfield
Benalla
Euroa
Shepp United
Mooroopna
---------------
Rochester
Shepparton
Kyabram
Echuca
Tatura
Shepp Swans
Tongala

Leading goal kicker... Ricky Symes (Benalla)
Morrison Medalist... Matt Byers (Shepparton)

Interesting ladder. I have spoken to a few people in the know and they all think Seymour should win the flag. They were a bit unlucky last year, losing 2 close finals. They have also picked up some quality players and I don't think they have lost much. Agree with Rochester - they have lost heaps.

We played seymour in a practice match and they have got a good side. Hooper is a gun and so is saad. They were also missing a few players that day aswell

Didn't Saad kick 10 goals or thereabouts?

Caught a look at Seymour when they rolled East Burwood by 12 goals a fortnight ago. Yeah Saad kicked 10, and Pilling and Patty Rattray also looked lively up forward. Some of the Lions missing were Schottner, Bailey, Hooper, Collins, Matt Amad, and I cant remember if Penn played.

Matt Amad, Did he play for northcote park last year?
How did seymour get all these players?

Did anyone see the seymour lower plenty game?

How can you pick Mooroopna. Are you suggesting Blake Campbell is going to take them from where the finished last year and win then six extra games to make the six. I don't think so.
