I still think there may a clean out of some players that may occur at the end of 2005. Obviously depends of performances throughout 2005 but here is my list of those players that could potentially be playing their last season at RFC:

Wayne Campbell (subject to form, could retire at the end of 2005)

Mark Graham (subject to form, could retire at the end of 2005)

Greg Stafford (subject to form, could retire at the end of 2005)

Shane Morrision (subject to form, could be delisted at the end of 2005)

Rory Hilton (subject to form, could be delisted at the end of 2005)

Kane Pettifer (subject to form, could be delisted at the end of 2005)

Thoughts?

Stage 1: Completed
Stage 2: Completed
Stage 3: Incomplete

Campbell, Stafford and Graham are 3 who would retire at the end of next year

Chaffey, Hall, Hilton, Morrison, Pettifer, and Tuck are all players who can't afford to go missing next season.

Gasper, Richardson and Kellaway are all probably 2-3 years away from retirement.

I think Stafford has a couple more seasons in him, but Campbell and Graham may only have one or two seasons at most left in them. Rory is a hard luck story, but I don't he will ever get back to his best, and we may not have actually seen his best. I would maybe add Tivendale to that list as I think he is really struggling at the moment. He lacks consistency with his skills, and he doesn't have a defensive bone in his body. Unless he improves big time this year, we may be able to use him as trade fodder next year. Andy Kellaway may also be on the chopping block unless he gets back to his old form. His skills are getting worse, as is his decision making, and he was consistently beaten by opponents last year in the air. And if Gaspar struggles again, I would be looking to trade him as well. It is all a bit harsh I know, but if we want to reach the top, we shouldn't be carrying players as we seem to do each year.

I will be suprised of Stafford or Graham play in 2006.

Campbell is an outside possibility, only if he plays really well in the forward line next year.

I would prefer all of them to retire at the end of next year.

Re: Rodan, i think unless a lot of players improve and he doesn't he'll be alright.

Remember this is a kid who should never of been thrown straight into the senior lineup.

He never had an "apprenticeship" at Coburg and got too many walk up starts, like Fiora.

Pretty much all these blokes could be gone at the end fo 2005:

Chaffey
Graham
Hall
Campbell
Rodan
Kellaway
Morrison
Tuck
Pettifer
Tivendale
Stafford
Hyde
Hilton
Krakouer (even though I doubt it very much. But if he continues to show a disregard to getting physically prepared he will be overtaken quick smart by some of the new crew.)

Has the mass clean-out ended?

No. I doubt we will have another year like this in terms of dislistings. However, there are many players which are in doubt for 2006 by either retirment or delistment.

32 - Campbell
32 - Graham
30 - Stafford
29 - Kellaway
28 - Gaspar
27 - Chaffey
26 - Hilton
26 - Tivendale
24 - Hall
24 - Morrison
23 - Tuck
23 - Pettifer
22 - Hyde
22 - Krakouer
21 - Rodan
19 - Foley (R)

Im hoping Roden and Krakouer come good. Im a big fan of Pettifer and dont think he will be gotten rid of. Tivendale needs to inprove and become consistant. Very big years for Chaffy, Kellaway and Gaspar while you'd think some if not all of the older crew will give it away.

Krakouer has a new 3 year deal, I don't think he's going anywhere. Hyde came 5th in our best and fairest, if you think he's going anywhere you're kidding yourself

If Campbells body holds up and he goes alright up forward I expect he will play on another year to make 300
Stafford I think is on his last year, he's struggling enough with injury as it is and with Knobel & Simmonds, we probably can afford to let him go
Morrisson is gone as is Hilton
Hall will be out of contract, although can be handy to have a spare 196cm player, we don't have that many. He's always been filling in gaps in our side, if he can settle in one spot and not have to take the #1 forward I think he'd do better.
Graham may stay on another year, but no more than that.
Chaffey & Kellaway may need to make way for the younguns, though will be interesting to see if Chaffey plays a tagging role this year.
Its crunch time for Pettifer & Tuck, I think Pettifer will come good though, not sure about Tuck, hope he does though
Tiva just needs Cogs to get him the ball

I expect there will be at least another 5-6 senior players gone by the end of 2005, a couple are certainties, the rest its too hard to pick before seeing them play under Wallace.

Campbell should last until the first richmond goal is kicked next year..

Then he will jump up and down and be a cripple for the rest of the year..

:p

That, I agree wholeheartedly. Been a long time since 95 and even longer before that.

2001 didnt count. We were marshmellow soft that year.

I am sure he is training on his celebration technique very hard in preparation for next season. :)

lol, playing at richmond for 15 years, you can't blame the guy for being unaccustomed to celebrating

Dont know what your best line up is ,but i really hope u guys get it together this year. Thing is, as im sure u all know, it most likely will not happen over night. But hopefully in 2-3 years, there will be a stronger Richmond that is making headyway into the finals. Do us a favour, can u plz beat Essendon, Collingwood and Port Adelaide. They really ******** me off.

Spose this belongs here;

As discussed in this thread, our core players is indeed shallow. Blokes currently 20-26 that you'd expect to be guns by the time the Tamblings and Meyer are 21/22ish.

Losing Ottens along with Zantuck and Fiora not being what we expected has worsened this issue.

So - back on our core and future leadship group;

27 - Johnson
26 - Bowden
26 - Simmonds
26 - Hilton
26 - Tivendale
24 - Knobel
24 - Hall
24 - Morrison
23 - Tuck
23 - Pettifer
23 - Coughlan
22 - Newman
22 - Hyde
22 - Krakouer
21 - Rodan
21 - Moore
20 - Hartigan
20 - Schulz

From that I expect the likes of Johnson, Bowden, Brown, Simmonds to be top shelf and as good as anyone. Problem is they are already in the 27 year old age bracket.

Im a big fan of Hatigan and i expect him to become a player. Couglan imo is a sure thing for comming a star of the game. Newman is another id have my house of being there in 5 years and playing good footy.

After that it gets dodgy... Moore looks decent but could go either way, similar to Tivendale. He needs a big '05 to show Plough he desevers a spot. Schultz looks a player, still too young to judge the kid, You'd hope both Krakouer & Rodan come good, If so its a huge benifit to the club. Hyde took big steps last season. He turned from a Flemo, Weller type player, from the 'dicard' group to one of the clubs important personal. Im a big wrap for Pettifer, really hope he has a great 05' and turns into a Newman/Couglan type. Morrison and Hilton dont cut the mustard while the likes of Tuck and Hall could well join them. Hopfully Knoble and Simmonds can ruck well for us the next 5 years.

All we can do is hope for the best and pray we dont try to 'solve' the problem by trading picks for recylced players. The youth policy is the only way forward which we must continue with.

I think we'll end up with at least 6 places to fill at the next trade/draft period, probably more like 8-10. Unfortunately we won't have anywhere near the picks we had this time (unless we get a priority pick), but some of those that might be cut could have some trade value so we could get some better 2nd/3rd/4th round picks.

the thing with Krak is he is very evasive and thats got nothing at al to do with speed or fitness thats just an innate thang you either have or you dont. Its a skill you cant really teach a young player to get. The ball can move faster than any man on a footbal field can run and krak knows its all about moving the pill quick n smart and thats his strength, his footy smarts.

i lurve it

There's still a bit of dead wood at the club.

You can add David Rodan, and ray hall to the list.

I don't understand why everyone is always down on Rodan. He is a quality kid and given the right circumstances will thrive next year. He has got pace to burn and this is way the team will be playing next year.

Look for him to be one of the big improvers next year

Yep, you'd like Roden to come good. However fact is if he has a poor 2005 he could be in some strife.

theres always deadwood to be cut off an afl list, there are more than a handful of kids who are nothing more than hopefuls atm,

would have liked to see chaffey get the arse, him, hilton, hall, tivers i reckon are on their last chance

Performance in the big games, maxfield thrashes campbell.
