Suckling is improving this year, with every game. He isn't going anywhere.

Yes, it seems people are willing to let the anxiety of a few fluffed kicks - despite an overall efficiency of 83%- dictate whether Suckers deserves his spot or not. What nonsense. By that logic we need to drop Buddy too- surely he should be punished for his inaccurate kicking?![]()

This was said before his first game this year and he was an absolute liability. I'm not expecting him to play for Box Hill, but I think he should be until he can run out a game.Hodge doesn't play VFL, if he is fit enough to play, he plays in the seniors.
I just finished watching the Box Hill Hawks game on the ABC and I can't see anyone getting promoted from that game.
Bit hard to judge watching a sub-standard team. Box Hill really are shocking, but it's not about winning the VFL flag, it's about getting match practise into certain players.
Really? Howe many hawthorn listed players were playing today and how many Box Hill listed. I would say we have to be reasonably worried about box hill's performances given that our depth players are playing.

How is Box Hill's performance relevant to Hawthorn's?
Or individual players' performance?
In 2008, Box Hill was 11th and only won 6 games.
How does that relate to the way the firsts were playing?

TFP- there are stand alone reserves sides in the vfl, and in the neafl who have varying degrees of success when it comes to their wins and losses this year (and every year). Sporadic, and unpredictable form, also a feature. The results of games don't necessarily correlate to the development of the senior team or players trying to break into it. The question about our development and how it is going cannot be categorised by the win loss column-it should matter, it should matter to box hill supporters- i am not saying it doesn't have value, but development is never solely categorised by a win or loss.
We need to be asking the questions regarding what we are teaching the players and whether it is effective at vfl level, and whether or not it is worthy methodology in player development. Asking players to play to a game plan without teaching them the fundamentals of a shifting game, and being single minded in where they play does not seem like sound management, nor does it sound like it will instill belief in the player in the event that they inevitably make a mistake.
At the same time, i would not be as naive as to suggest that the players don't have to take on the responsibility for developing the right work ethic and endeavour in order to give themselves the best possible chance to succeed in this game. Attitude is paramount. A person who simply blames others for their problems might never reflect enough to see where their problems lie, confront them, and move on and grow.
So at the end of the day- the question that constantly goes through my head is, if we acknowledge there is something wrong with development and the performances at box hill- have we set up the correct environment, for young players in particular, to thrive?
How do we get players out of their heads and just experiencing things on the field for what they are?

As i mentioned earlier you need 25 -30 players in case of injury. As far seeting the right environment well shiels savage breust suckling schoey all playing in the seniors and i am sure i missed a few. They all served their apprenticeships at box hill and provided selection pressure. This is something that we need if you want to go deep ion september because the game has changed it is more demanding it requires more than the best 22 these days
Well, I would argue that the focus on development at the end of 2010 into 2011 was vastly different, and categorically superior to any point in time since we won the flag in 2008. I don't think that the evolution of the players you've mentioned comes as a surprise on the back of the review that took place in 2010 and change in direction the club took. I have not seen any emphasis on development during the pre-season or season proper to the same extent as what we presented last year. In fact, i remarked to someone on here recently that we made decisions in direct contrast to last year. Players were not rewarded for their performances in the pre-season, we had a very pre-conceived notion of what we thought our squad should be- and when other players played well- they were dropped the next week. We, again, have started to send mixed messages to players. That's concerning to me.
Some players come in and can play under any system, but that system needs to work for all players. It's not a coincidence that an entire team can be out of form in the same way consistently. Tell me what point it serves getting angry at a player, if you're not teaching that player properly?
He might have been an old bald guy, but he was a father this week to a son..Congrats Cam..Just shows you can't be too old...![]()
