Just read this article on afl.com.au

21 year old who won the Sandover Medal as a small forward, with 75 goals for the season.

Is it just me, or does this kid seem the perfect recruit for the Crows. Geelong recruited Harry Taylor as a mature age draft pick, providing them with a ready made AFL footballer, capable of holding down CHB, so why don't we give him a shot? This would put less pressure on the development of Jacky, allowing him a couple more years to earn his stripes.

I am by no means an expert on the draft, so I was wondering where people think he will be taken? Going by this, if he was available at our 3rd or even 2nd round pick, i'd snap him up.

Obviously I have no idea who this kid is but wining a sandover medal isnt easy so maybe we should have a look.

ive been saying this for months now, that we should have a look at him..

he's a bit like medhurst, but quicker.. and he can also play in midfield too..

Exactly

I'm interested to know why he was overlooked as a youngster though. I might do some research.

He's only 169cm I think. This may be why he was overlooked. Good kid though wouldnt mind Freo having a crack at him as well.

Loves horses and originally wanted to be a jockey but was too big so became a footballer. Definitely in the Medhurst mould. I would want him at Adelaide.:thumbsu:

Would love for the Crows to pick him up... he's got great footy-smarts! He should also be able to slot straight into our line-up and provide cover (with Walker and Dangerfield, and maybe Sellar) for our weakened foward line with Burton out and Hentschel still on the road to recovery.

He said on the news tonight that he wants to stay in Perth but he would go east if he got the opportunity. I wonder if he would like to come to Adelaide?

he's not exceptionally quick, but he has really good acceleration.. thus why we gets lots of goals on the lead.. and he has a good leap on him too

In his position acceleration is probably the key, sounds like he could most definitely be a handy addition, especially since he would pretty much be AFL ready.

well ive been pumping him up as a good selection for us for a while now.. just i wouldnt use anything less than a late 3rd rounder, or fourth rounder for him though..

he's good opportunist in front of goals aswell.. cant be any worse than what we have at the moment.. although douglas seems somewhat similar in a way.. just without the leap and not as quick

I can see Ballantyne going late 4th round or rookie draft, he may even get overlooked again. Anything above that and you would be wasting a pick IMO.

at the moment he is.. but he's 3 years older.. to be honest, i dont know who will end up the best pick.. yarran is a bit of a unknown.. he has more x-factor than ballantyne.. but ballantyne could be the type of forward that can kick 40-50 goals a season.. i dont think yarran would do that, but he'd be more valuable on the half forward line/midfield than ballantyne would be..

if that all makes sense..?..

Can anyone compare this guy with Yarran, Yarran seems a good sort with speed, hands and reading of the play, is Ballantyne better??

Yarran's a class above. Has a lot more tricks, more creativity and better footskills than Ballantyne, who mainly relies on his power, acceleration and vertical leap.

Couple of articles on the lad.

They are both a bit dated, and relate to his Sandover win.

What is interesting is that six clubs, including Freo and WCE, had spoken to him. I'd only have expected that to increase following the Sandover win, but he is only invited to the WA state screening on October 12th (didn't make the draft camp).

I don't think that he'd break any records for the vertical leap, but it will be interesting to see how he tests.

A Sandover medal and 75 goals out of a forward pocket is a great achievement. I wonder if he is on our radar?

Nicely balanced, moves nicely, needs more of a left foot, but other than that, does anyone else see a shorter Porpoise with a bit more pace? Seems very poised and uses the ball very nicely. Might be wrong, but I don't see him lasting past the 2nd round, unless there are issues we are not aware of.
