THE lawyer defending a convicted rapist accused of murdering WA teenager Hayley Dodd in 1999 says a key piece of physical evidence against his client could have been planted.

The judge-alone Supreme Court of WA trial of Francis John Wark is wrapping up, with defence counsel Darryl Ryan targeting an ankh-shaped earring matching a description of the style the 17-year-old was wearing when she went missing in his closing submissions on Friday.

The earring was only found in September 2013, when a car bench seat cover that police seized one week after Hayley vanished was finally examined at the state forensic laboratory.

The trial heard the evidence bag was open because the adhesive had de-laminated.

"The possibility that the earring was planted is open and it cannot be excluded," Mr Ryan said.

Verdict expected around January. How about all the sightings of Hayley after she disappeared?

Has the witness identified the earring as Hayleys? That would mean someone had to find an identical earring? The blue dot unique?

I think they said the earring was mass produced and the most popular earring sold at the time from the shop Haley bought it from.

It just seems flimsy to me. Hope they found connections in new Lisa Govan evidence. This must have delayed the video release about her disappearance, so hope there is some outcome.

It all seems to be culminating into a grand finale together after years so doesnt it?

I doubt it, but they stick remands in anywhere they can these days. There is no room left in the jails.

So they have those hairs still? And a copy of the fingerprints that are obviously not on the criminal database?

Im sure I read that they felt it was possible Sharons body had been at one stage put in a freezer, discovered by a drainer, now retired Perth home builder.

Mr McGinty was in his role as attorney-general when Greer's parole was first considered in 2001 and said he considered deporting the Liverpool-born Greer but the board rejected parole on the basis that it needed to protect the larger community, not just in Western Australia.

Belfast-born Greer, who became eligible for parole in 2001, will face a board hearing next month and is said to be "certain" that he will be sent back, just as Excell was a month ago.

In 1969 he served 18 months in a British jail for an indecent assault on a nine-year-old girl. In 1974, the year he left Northern Ireland, he was jailed for a year in Perth for indecent assault. In 1987 he got 10 years for three attempted murders.

I think Smart Alec likes playing with the dress shop metaphor is alluding to a possible association between the criminals in more ways than one possibly.

Partly because Wark was alleged to have been a resident of Mosman Park with his parents at one point.

There were a considerable number of criminals and drugs in the immediate area with another murder in 1994.

1. La Petite restaurant, about 50 metres away opens in 1985 *Not implying anything *BRE would be about 19 years about 1988

2. In 1987 he (Greer) got 10 years for three attempted murders.

*In 1988 a woman named Dorothy was abducted from the Sheraton hotel by a man in a yellow Toyota with a metal passenger seat wearing rough driving gloves, who was then dropped at Centenary drive, Wilson
His comments were: "You stupid bitch, you are going to die"
Julie Cutler had one attempted run off the road and also later disappeared from the Parmelia Hotel.
