After buying a HD TV i cant seem to tune in any channels do i need a set top Box aswell serious Question as i have you guessed it NFI...

Hey Noosa. I work at The Good Guys, and I install them on the side, so I offer this....

Nearly all LCD/Plasmas have a HD tuner built in to them. Unless this tv you speak of is a refurbished/second hand model from well over a year ago, which is when you may need a STB.

If you are using rabbit ears, forget it, you will get nothing. You need a decent antenna. Does not have to be state of the art, but you must use the wall connection.

Got to the menu, open the installation, or set up menu, and select Auto Tune (or search channels etc). Once this is complete, also check your analogue reception. You can do this by selecting ATV on your input list, or pressing TV/DTV button. (depends on what TV). If you are getting no analogue reception, but you did with your old TV, then maybe your TV is screwed. PM me with your phone number, and I'll call you if required.

Just bought a 50" and had to upgrade my antenna before it would self tune itself.

Called my local Jim's Antenna's bloke, he came and put in a taller antenna and it did the job.

I can't believe the improvement in the picture. Not sure how much is the tv and how much is the antenna though!

If you do need a new antenna, you can pick up a decent analogue/digital antenna from Bunnings for about $60.

Something else you could try Noose is a Antenna Booster.

Try it and if it doesn't work, take it back for a refund

Before I added my first set top box to an old, but good tv, my analogue signal was perfect.
Once I added a set top box I had to invest in a new aerial and signal booster as the digital signal strength in my area was very poor.
The government failed to announce any of this when sprooking the change over from the analogue to digital signal.
They simply said purchase a set top box and everything will work perfectly, this is definitely not the case for those living in areas that have well known digital signal deficiencies.
If you are unlucky enough to live in one of these areas the aerial/antenna you will require will set you back at least another couple of hundred dollars.
