He has stated his intentions to come home and has never really been settled up in queensland.
What will it take in all seroiusly to see him in a freo jumper next year.

His partner has now departed for WA. She has 'gone home' to give birth to their 2nd child sometime in the next few weeks (no idea how far away) and will spend time there with her family after the birth. She isn't expected back in Brissy for something like 4 months!

So that is probably your best chance of getting him back there - having her stay and say 'nup sorry not going back' - that is about the only way he will make that sort of decision I think.

I think that is a pretty big sign that he will return to WA. If he wants his child born there it dont look good for the Lions.

I t hink it would be very sad for him to leave the Lions for all their investment in him but Headland has all the way thru his afl career yearned so desperately to go back to WA. He prefers Freo dont he?

I think you need to start realising that he will be coming home at the end of the year.
He never wanted to go over in the first place and his tune has not changed at all.

Nah Sabre, until he comes and and says it, then I won't be bracing myself for it.

It isn't unusual for players partners to 'go home' to have their children. Especially when the birth falls in the playing season/finals season. And so far they have all come back!

Brisbane will have to come up with some big bucks or let him go.

Des Headland is on his way to being a big name in the football world and the fact that they are starting to tout him as a Brownlow runner, makes the stakes higher.

I don't think it would take much from Freo or West Coast for that matter, to lure Des back home.

I have come to the realisation that Des will go and the only thing we can take out of it, is that he will be worth sooooo much money and trade to us.

If gets himself a Brownlow and maybe a Premiership, the world is his oyster.

He could ask for anything and go anywhere he wants.

As much as I love Dessy he ain't gonna get the Brownlow this year. Next year, that's a whole different story.

I normally get quite nervous about talk of him going to Freo but after them signing on Pavlich for that amount of money they're not going to have a lot to play with - they still have to pay everyone else (that includes Croadie, Farmer and Bell). I'm feeling quite safe about ol' Des.

It is a worry about his baby but it's obvioulsy something they've decided together.

I was about 3 seconds away from backing Des for the brownlow (each way) last week at $501, and now he is $81  :(

Same goes for Lynch, now paying 2.80 for the Coleman, last week 6 bucks.

Anyways, Des is a champion and kimp may have a point, but West Coast are always in the picture. Freo might offer draft picks or something but we have to go as far as doing whatever it takes to keep him.

BTW, I was looking for the "Kick it to Des" sign on the weekend and couldn't find it, although I did see the "Pikey for PM" sign.

I don't think his partner going "home" is much of an indicator, most girls want their mums with them when giving birth! And especially if it is during the season her partner won't be around too much so the support network is vital after the birth. Bradshaw went "home" when his baby was born and there was no talk of losing Braddy that I can remember despite the fact that he missed out on the semi.

Maybe this is all wishful thinking and I am trying to convince myself that Dessy will stay.

Just as an aside perhaps Leigh needs to give them all a talking to again about birth control and planning to have little Lions outside of the season!!

Wouldn't it have made sense for Dessie to leave earlier?

i.e. - why would he leave now?

If anything, he would have gone in the first two years, when homesickness was at its worst, or even last year, when he got dropped on the eve of the finals. He's finally arrived, playing top-notch football and on his way to the elite, in a very, very strong football team. He's done the hard yards. He deserves to reap the rewards with our team (and vice-versa).

I could be like the others though, and trying to convince myself he'll stay. :(

And you're basing these comments on what, exactly?

IMO, I wouldn't be interested in anything that Fremantle 'could' offer.

Word on the street is that Des does want to stay at Brisbane. He's put a figure on the table as to his contract next year, and if the club won't except it, he'll be looking at other options.

As for his partner going home to have the baby, as well as having her family around her, the main reason is that the Headland clan go home to WA for christmas each year, so it's more convienient for her to have the baby there and for Des to go over at the end of the season than to subject a new born to the 5 hour flight.

This guy is exactly what fremantle need.
I have been watching allot of him lately and if he is even remotely homesick he must be priority number one come draft time.

Strong fast and a penetrating midfielder is what fremantle lack and that is what headland is.
With pavliches future un certain I am sure a deal can be organised.
Pavlich to Crows/Port and somthing from there to the lions.
Take your pick people (Try and take this seriously)

Seriously, I can't think of anyone from Freo, Port or Adelaide that I'd want in return for Headland.

He's done a lot of interviews recently and hasn't indicated any particular interest in leaving, either. Not always the strongest indication, but encouraging, nevertheless.

Well, I'd take McLeod, Primus or Tredrea, but I don't think they are on the table somehow. Pavlich would be good.

But the only reason Headland won't be playing with Brisbane next year is if he can't be fitted under the salary cap and if that's the case, we won't be getting a big name in exchange for him. Freo's headed for draft pick number 4, which would be better than nothing.

Playing in a second grand final could influence his decision...

I do hope they work hard to keep him though. Can we move Lynch onto the veteran's list next year? That would free up some room.

Well, I thought that went without saying! Besides, we wouldn't want Primus, and he wouldn't want us. Tredrea - unsure about him, it'd be a bit like getting Lynch mark 2. McLeod would be nice, but it ain't happening.

When the team's as even as it is now, it's hard to nominate particular weak spots to patch with experienced players from other clubs, which makes Brisbane's involvement in any kind of 3-way trade a bit unlikely.

OSHA you have made my day!!! I really can't imagine why a player would leave a finals/premiership team to go to one that is a number of years away. To be honest I'd rather trade Acka.

Same goes for the Brisbane Lions. I'm pretty sure that most clubs would been keen for his services, for that matter.

I would consider K.Johnson and Fremantle's first draft pick for Headland.
