Same goes for the Brisbane Lions. I'm pretty sure that most clubs would been keen for his services, for that matter.

I would consider K.Johnson and Fremantle's first draft pick for Headland.

I was thinking Kane Johnson as well, although I would prefer Headland to stay of course.

Maybe he meant playing in a team that had played in two premierships, and fair enough him wanting to stay after that. I think it's ridiculous him thinking of leaving to a lesser team if the reigning premiers want to keep him.

I would say a realistic trade for Headland would be a top 5 draft pick and maybe an Anthony Grover or other young tall backman with a lot of potential.

That said Headland will stay with the Lions. Look at Chris Johnson, who was very homesick when he was in and out of the side, but now he is a permanent fixture you wouldn't budge him with a crow bar. There isn't much chance of him going to Freo as they have a bigger salary cap problem than anyone, and even if they lose Pavlich they will get some other big name in a trade. West Coast is clinging to the eight at the moment, but when Jakovich and McIntyre retire in the next year or so, they will be in a world of hurt. Whereas he can stay at the Lions for another 2-3 years, play finals and posiibly premiership football, and have another look at his options then.

jackovich will be around for another 3 years
mcintosh's replacement is ready to go, hes called gaspar

heres a deal that the eagles are apparently considering

gardiner to carlton for hedland
of course gardiner is worth much more than hedland so it will
"hopefully" :) be
gardiner + 2nd tier player to carlton for hedland and #1 pick
2nd tier players like braun, fletcher, embely, williams, haynes etc

what could carlton give you for hedland though

Isn't that nice. The Eagles are supposedly working out a deal for us so that we can 'give them' Dessie.

Why would the Lions take anything from Carlton if they are going to give the #1 pick to West Coast...as well as West Coast getting Headland? I know you said 'hopefully :)", but that is 'out there'

Methinks you are living in a dreamland if you think this 'deal' is a probability. If (and I say if - I doubt it though) Headland leaves the Lions the deal would have to be a lot better than this proposal. (Have you seen Headland play lately?)

Nice try.

Isn't it funny how all these opposition clubs are so keen on getting D.Headland, yet, they all believe they are giving up "so much more" in order to acquire his services.

For what it's worth, Headland is worth much more to the Lions than either Pavlich, or Gardiner, or any of the other offers that have been suggested by opposition fans at this point (that I have seen, at least).

Not sure how we are going with the salary cap, but I wouldn't be surprised now if the lions traded Keating to make room for headland

Yes Wayne Loxley is Des manager but he works for Max Stevens. You guys in Bris and melb probabaly dont here much about Des but over West his management have said he wants to come home. Actually every year they say this but Des hasnt played much first team action and no trades have come forward. I love Des and would love to see him in Freo but at the same time I love him in Brisbane. Stocka you should probably watch a bit of Pavlich before you make a stupid statement like you did before. I would love to see Pav at Bris (He is gonna be huge).

Love the Des
Hate the Des
Gotta love the Des (Seinfeld)

Word at the club is that Dessy's staying.

I'd say his management is just trying to drum up his price.

The Lions would be absolutely nutso to let Headland go..

Theyve pumped a very sound inventment into him and it has payed dividends with his recent excellent form. He seems a lot happier than in past seasons because he is playing well. Seeing him applaud the crowd after the Bombers game in Melb gave me for the first time a feeling that he felt really part of the Lions.

I hope he realizes the Lions have worked hard to help him step up to the plate at the top level and appreciates that. Everyone at the Lions thinks the world of him for his hard work and determination and given he and his family moved. I hope he stays.

I suggest you, should watch more of the Lions, before you too make a fool or yourself (although, it may be too late already! :p).

Headland is an integral part of our side. He will most likely finish in the top 5 in the B&F. His presence allows Voss to play at FF. Hardly a luxury that we'd be willing to pass up just on mere heresay, I'd suggest.

So Pavlich is having a good season? Who's he playing for again? More so, where is he going to play for the Lions, and who is he going to replace? Leppitsch? Pfft! Michael? hahah! Brown? Mwahahahahah! Oh wait, he'll be replacing S.Hart, won't he? Right.

Now, I'm not saying that Pavlich won't be a star, but for what it's worth, Headland can offer the Lions far more than Pavlich ever will. What reason, would the Lions have to give up Headland for Pavlich? I haven't yet seen one good offer backed up by reason, as to why and for whom, the Lions should trade Des Headland. Certainly no-one has offered any decent and objective reason as to why Pavlich would be a better player for us than Headland would.

Likewise, I haven't yet seen a Lions supporter say that they would rather have Pavlich at the Lions (not that they couldn't of course). Similarly, why would he want to move to QLD, when all the talk has been on him returning home to SA??

A stupid statement on my part? I don't think so.

It's good to have you back too, mate! ;)

Stocka, Ive seen Headland play (Look at My location). Every year Des trys to get back home. My concern is him playing for the wet toast. I would like him at freo, but him and Chris Johnson will always be my heroes. I dont think you have seen much of Pavlich. I wont say too much about Pavlich as after my post last week he played one of the most deplorable games ever seen by man. As for calling your comment stupid, well Ive been watching to much Plan 9 from outer space?

And about Leppitshe. Didnt you see the game last year when Pavlich and Leppitshe played on each other????

Are you telling me that Mal Michael is a better player than Matthew Pavlich?? Leppitsch fair enough, Brown probably level with Pav but Michael...yeah he's good but Pavlich is gonna be a star of the AFL. Something Michael is not and probably wont be in the future.

Thanks for joining, clown.

As far as I'm concerned, M.Michael is one of the best full backs going around in the league (if not the best). How people can not rate him as a star is beyond me.

Whether or not Pavlich is a good player, I would much rather Michael at FB, and so would most other Lions supporters.

So on one hand you're an expert on Headland, but you think I know nothing about Pavlich?

Perhaps you're just seeing things that way due to the fact that you're a Fremantle supporter.

Well, so WA fans would like to think, at least!

What makes you think that I haven't seen much of Pavlich? )I think I'd know whether I had or not, without someone having to tell me).

I've seen enough of him to make the judgement that he's a very talented footballer, who has experienced some great form at times this year.

However, I don't see much reason to have him at the Lions (at least no-one has come up with a reasonable scenario yet), let alone trade one of our best players for him.

That's the difference between a Premiership player, and a player who played for an "also-ran". "Also-rans" can only hang their hats on individual performances.

For those WA supporter hanging out to see if Headland does want to return, if the situation came down to Headland wanting to return to WA, I reckon the club should refuse to do a deal, and force him to go into the draft, if he really wants to leave to get a better deal elsewhere.

Why should we have to accomodate a player's desires, if they aren't going to play for us? Sure, we "may" get something in return, but why should we have to give up one of our best players to do so, if we would rather keep that player in the first place?

With the amount of players coming from outside QLD that the Lions have, the last thing the thing the club needs, is for players to think they can come and go, and then return to the club of their choice in their own time.

The Lions should offer Headland a good deal, but if he believes he can get better elsewhere, I would rather see us lose him in the draft for nothing, than to just allow a player to dictate terms to the club.
