This guy needs to pull his head in, was on channel 7 news last night commenting on the Dean Solomon suspension. Not sure how many of you guys seen it or if we can get it up on a video but he basically had a rant about the club making the wrong decision, Solly is a proud man (which he is) and the club has let him down.

He was going on about McVeigh missing the training session and thats why he got the suspension at the bombers, and why should Solly get suspended when he came to training as scheduled.

Well Heath Black if you take your head out of your ass and get that chip of your shoulder towards FFC you would realise that Solly was out until after 3am that night and that was the reason he was suspended you flog.

It might be just me but I was pretty f**king pissed off at Heath while listening to his rant.

There are mixed feeling about weather Solly deserved to be suspended or not.
IMO he did. However Heath Black, a former leader of the club and past player should know better when it comes to setting the right examples to our future leaders of the club ala Suban, Mayne, Plamer, Hill and the likes.

I agree 100% with him though.

Why have Grover and anonymous one other not been suspended?

Why only Peake and Solly? It's crap.

I didn't see the report but I agree with him. He got the ok stay in melbourne and came back to training when agreed. It was Sunday night/Early hours of Monday morning - We play Sunday afternoon the following week. How long does it take to get over a hangover??

To say he's been unprofessional is rubbish. Unless he's disgraced himself Fevola/Kerr/Johnson/Taz style there is no way he should be suspended for a match.

As far as I can tell no one is even saying he was drunk let alone hungover. He was just up late.

I'm with Blackie on this one. Its a bit ridiculous if a bloke can't have a late night a week before the next game.

Heath Black knows all about getting into trouble during his days at freo, so he really should be a last resort to obtaining an opinion about the latest of many Solly indiscretions.

The guys are allowed to have "late nights" but being out till after 3am is where he got into trouble. The team rule may have been a 12am or 1am curfew so he has broken team rules.

The suspension was not for the "drinking" but for breaking team rules which is where the "unprofessionalism" comes into it.

The sooner our club is run as an elite team and not by the rules of the local football club the better.

To say he's been unprofessional is rubbish.

It is unprofessional though.

(i) he is a senior player
(ii) previously guilty of ill discipline
(iii) has broken team rules (up late and consuiming alcohol)
(iii) up late - at his age you should be putting all the ducks in a row ...nutrition, training, rest, fitness
(iv) didn't get into strife but far more likely to do so out and about in melb at 3 AM

It is totally unprofessional as he is paid by the FFC and is breaking rules he agreed to, after Harvey allowed him to stay over.

What would you call it - careful preparation.

Like Black was the bastion of professionalism during his playing days.

Yep and one of the reasons Heath's career ended years earlier than it should of ...I have a 6th sense - I can see ********s and they don't even know they are ********s.

Any nightout not ending in gaol is probably OK by Heath.

If you don't want to play by the team rules - then don't play for us.

Dagg - Solly would have agreed to these rules as a senior player. I am fairly sure he would of been reminded of them as the club allowed him to stay behind.

Plenty of nights you can have out in the off season or the 40 years after you retire. If he had been at Mark McVeigh's house - it would of gone without notice - the fact he did it in Melb shows that some players think the rules dont apply to them - this has been a problem at our club from day 1.

I really hope the club does not renew his contract, if you are nigh on 30 and don't see any harm in drinking, staying up late and showing disrespect for our football club - there is no room for you IMHO.

I saw this report too and I must say I was pissed at Heath for what he said. He might be right, but it is his opinion, not factual information, and therefore he doesn't have to air it in public. He needs to learn the right path if he's going to have a successful career in the media.

Didn't see it myself.
Still, if He is editorialising instead of reporting and having a ping at Freo at the same time then obviously he's a soft **** who should get over it.

We expect ex players to get behind and support the Club.

I guess he was more interested in impressing his current bosses. I don't think he will do himself any favours by shitting in the nest he would expect to get the most scraps from.

Look at it a different way... FFC is a professional organisation. They have their own HR department, etc... as do all other AFL teams. So, how does a professional organisation such as an AFL football team have such unfair contradictions regarding their employees. Does the same alcohol/ curfew laws apply to the same administration who impose them?
Secondly... we put ridiculous pressures on these athletes... they face daily job critique.... I only face annual critique (which always results in a bottle of wine or two that night and a fair bit of anger thrown towards my poor family).
I am considered a professional in my field.... so why aren't I subjected to the same scrutiny by my employer for staying up late after a bad day at work?
How is this different for these players??
What is the first thing you do when you have had a bad day at work?
Seriously.... why aren't we quizzing the administration on their treatment of their employees (e.g. the players).
WE are their critics every week.... but how would we feel and react in the same situation?

Are you a professional athlete?

If your employer granted you paid special leave but stipulated as you were representing the company and in accepting this leave you were to follow guidlines of not going out and not drinking ...and you broke it - would you expect some retribution?

If Solly does not like this workplace - he can feel free to seek a new employer.

Basically I'd give my left one to get paid to train and play ...there are no tears from me.

Mate, different jobs have different requirements. You can't compare your job, or most other jobs, to that of a footballer.

Bottom line is that the job of a football club is to win games, and at the top level clubs will put stringent conditions on players as to how they prepare to play those games. If you want to play football and not be subject to those conditions, then play in a league where they don't exist. The AFL aint for you.

It's not unfair - that's just what needs to be done for the organisation to meet it's goals. Don't like it? GTFO.

Maybe shooting his mouth off is his way of making a name for himself? There are plenty of knobs in the media, perhaps he wants to become one of them.

Heath Black is a past player from Fremantle, full stop,he is now a sports reporter for some radio station, full stop.Would you prefer him to not report the Solomon indescretion!!!Would you be screaming like crazy if Solly had done it and it not be reported?Do you want Black and the Fremantle football club to lift the corner of the carpet and sweep these indescretions under it like another club from up the road. You want Black to be like all the puppet reporters who cowtower to the threats from the mob up the road?
Good on the club for being the boss. For too long the club have been accused of the dog being wagged by the tail.Harvey and the match committee have done the right thing.

It wasn't the reporting of the incident that was a problem am, it was his opinions thrown on top that the suspension was undeserved and that the club had let Solly down. Totally unnecessary.

Do you want Black and the Fremantle football club to lift the corner of the carpet and sweep these indescretions under it like another club from up the road.

But that's effectively what Black was trying to do by saying Solly shouldn't have been punished.

IMO I like the fact that Solomon was suspended.

Harvey and the FFC have a young squad, they are trying to set a precedent for those young players. We are going to draft a bunch of kids again this year and they want the team policies set in stone and adhered too by all.

Rightly or wrongly, I think this was the 'real' reason behind the suspension.

While I agree with the action the FFC has taken, I believe that they should have been a little more clear on what their expectations are. There are a lot of young players at the club and if the club wants to impose an alcohol ban and a midnight curfew then it should be black and white with no grey areas. Solly should have known better he is a senior player.

Mate there would be clear rules set by the playing group and known by all.
