An excerpt from the West today:

"Speculation continues that former Fremantle player Heath Black, now out of favour at St Kilda, wants to return to Perth and the Dockers.

Black, who left Fremantle after 2001, played the last five games of 2003 in the VFL for Springvale.

He is contracted for next year but it is understood his wife, who gave birth to their second child recently, is keen to return to Perth.

Fremantle football manager Steven Icke said the Dockers would be happy to discuss possible trades for Black if approached by the Saints but could not initiate the approach because Black was still under contract."

I know some of you don't rate Heath Black, and some of you may be apprehensive about getting an ex-Dockers players. Even more so because of our need for a key-possie player.

But after some ordinary seasons with St-Kilda and being badly coached by Thomas, his trade value would have gone down.
Would u guys conisder going for Blacky?

He would be great off a wing position, moving Embley to the half forward line as a dangerous tall. Or possbily a half back flank like Matera did in the alte 90's.

With Wirrupunda and Black in the backline, we can get some drive from defense.

I didnt read the article but here are my thoughts, nonetheless.

He wont go back to perth. He is my friends half-brother and since he moved back here (Victoria) he looks as if he has enjoyed every bit of it. He has a 2 young children and it seems as though he wants to raise his kids in Melbourne and he is a family man so he would want to be near his parents house.

The only reason i see him going back across the nullabor is for his wifes family. But other than that i dont think he'll leave Victoria any time soon.

However, if he did in fact go back to Perth he'd be a great pick-up for us, it would give us another great midfielder and he could maybe even turn into a dashing Half-Back Flank.

Black seems to have gone off the boil this year. Has struggled to get games with St Kilda and his form in the VFL hasn't been too crash hot. Add to the fact he got involved in a blue with a highly thought of player at St Kilda.

Was keen on him when he was at Fremantle, but wouldn't want the club chasing his services.

Would take him for a 2nd rd pick (#27 overall). He has class, and comes with less risk than the 27th pick in the draft. But not if we had to choose between getting him or Bartel.

Thought we had picks 11, 26 and 42 as Carlton lost their first 2 picks?

Still don't want Black though. The only players I would trade our first 2 picks for would be KPP's. Jacobs or Polak (who hasn't signed yet) or even Cloke (if the rumours are true) would be my priorities. Bartel for Haynes and our third pick or Jacobs
and Essendons third pick for Cox.

They lost their 1st rd pick, but not their concession.

I know they still have their consession but they lose their first 2 picks in the proper draft meaning they don't have a pick until round 3.

Williams didnt really play that well for the eagles, but as soon as he went to the pies, he went alrite again.. I was talkin to both him and adkins at heat saturday after the grand final, and both players said that they enjoyed being at different clubs!
I think that Adkins would be a great player in our side.. He showed us he has pace, good goal sense and a great disposal all at his mercy, particularly in the game against sydney where i think he was one of our best players!
It's just a matter of Woosha giving him some time to adjust from WAFL level to AFL level in more than just one week..

wednesday's age mentions St.Kilda chasing Cox, with of course Black mentioned ... but that's just the reporter putting two and two together. They might like Cox, but it does not mean we like Black.

And if we are to get rid of Cox, I would not want Black. Cox is far more valuable to our side that what Black would be. if we get rid of Cox, i'd want a KP player.

I think it's much easier to trade apples for apples, but in this case, when we are trading an orange (tall) for an apple (small) I think we are losing out, just because of our weaknesses.

12 days till trade week.

droooooooool

but....wirra and fido haven't resigned yet. :(

Wirrupunda was worth 400 k 2 years ago, but now he is worth around that margin, I still don't feel he's worth 400k, maybe 350 k

Cox = Black = Insanity.

I will spew if we short sell Cox for a flanker. Let alone a mid-career, former Docker on his third club. That would be stupidity of the highest order. Like ozzult has said no way should we shed Cox who is only going to get better but particularly when we have no other recognised back-up as Seaby / Beeck have yet to play a game. I am hoping Trev and Woosha have things a bit more in order than this.

Not interested in Black at all!

Wouldnt go close to getting a gig at WC, if he cant get a game at St Kilda then why does anyone seriously believe he will get a game at our club. And to lose quality like Cox for him, well that's just insanity!

Williams played pretty much as he always did at West Coast, from the games I saw. As for Adkins adjusting, how long does he need? He looked absolutely out of sorts in most of the games he played for us this year.

In all fairness to Adkins, he was never given enough game time to get into the thick of things. Usually came off the bench in last 10 mins of a quarter to give one of our first line midfielders a breather, hardly enough time to get into the rhythm of the game.

Fair enough. And a reasonably fair offer, too.

I'd ask for Cox in a straight swap. That might be rejected, so I'd offer you Heath + 3rd Round Pick (#38 overall).

Not sure if you'd take it. We certainly couldn't offer anything more, but you may get a more suitable deal elsewhere.

Cox has never really impressed me, but he's a ruckman, and we need someone to be in tandem with Barry Brooks in 2004 and beyond.

I can understand why that may seem a reasonable deal from a saints perspective.
But as you say, we wouldn't take that, not in a million years.
There seems to be some perception that we're desperate to offload Cox? Anything but. He's an okay, player who might be of more value to some other club, given the lack of ruckmen swimming around. So yes, if there was an outstanding offer on the table he might be traded.

But there is absolutely no reason for us to trade him, and sure as hell not for who would not crack into our 22. Its not as though we're pimping Cox (now there's a phrase) around to teams, desperate to offload him- if a great came deal up, all good, but if it doesn't, well good for us, we go into 2004 with a very strong ruck division.

We really rate Black over here, and would love him to stay, but he probably won't.

Clearly you lot rate Cox, and don't want to trade him.

I think his value to WCE significantly overshadows his value on the trade market, and that's our point of difference.

Hence, it's unlikely St Kilda will be going for Cox if this is the price you put on him.

I dont think we have over valued Cox. He would be first ruck at a lot of AFL clubs, it's just that we have Gardiner so he is used as a backup ruckmen.

He is worth a lot more than Black who would struggle to even get a game at our club.

Disagree.

Cox is worth a lot more to you than he is on the open market.

If you knocked back that offer, we'd immediately chase a Charman or Jolly.

Crap.

Contrary to the statements on here, Black would walk into your team.

If you couldn't slot him on a wing or a flank, I'd be shocked.

I'm a huge fan of WCE's midfield, but you're selling Black way short.

He missed the last few games of 2003 through injury, and since we belted the **** out of everyone played, including your lot, we were comfortable about playing the gun kids.

I just think Black has been badly coached by Drum and Thomas, his full potential isn't been revealed.

At his best I see him as a Matera on the half back flank

Lynch, Wirrupunda and Black roost the ball out of defence a mile
