Heavy Rain WILL Blow Your MIND!


I'm really restricted to what I can say here, but I just wanted to get a couple chimes in about Heavy Rain. I've recently had the opportunity to get a glimpse of some new gameplay footage, and I was absolutely floored. Heavy Rain is so dynamic and alive, it'll blow your mind. No one I've spoken to can confirm if E3 2009 will see the same footage I saw yesterday, but I have done all I can to encourage them to show some of what they've shown me. We're talking physics, dynamic story-telling, insane graphical updates since E3 '08--it is an amazing game and a contender for Game of the Year.

I'm in the same boat.

I would rather prefer being in full control of the character.

Unless the story is somehow out of this world, I doubt I would even rent it.

Because I didn't post all the parts?

I said here is some gameplay footage and posted the shortest one, because I didn't think that over 20 minutes of footage was required.

Or was it because I said this game probably won't be good, kind of like Killzone 2? ;)

I was kind of right about KZ2 anyway. I based my opinions on the single player footage, which sucked balls. I was right about that because the campaign ended up being a mess.

Haven't watched part 1 or 2 of the vid, so might show more there, but Fahrenheit had sections like that too. Most of the time you controlled the character though (from the very little I played anyway). The gameplay in Farhenheit sort of reminded me of games like Darkseed, Monkey Island, Police Quest etc. Probably newer games around like that too - i don't play much else other than console games these days, but probably the closest I can think of for console games that I have played would be Silent Hill I guess. IIRC Faherheit my have had fixed (or slightly moving) cameras like Resident Evil. I don't remember being able to shoot or anything, but like I said earlier, I hardly played it, so may not have got that far into it. Of course, that's all assuming Heavy Rain will be like Fahrenheit though.

No because if you actually watched the first two videos you would know what you're talking about.

Plus the Killzone 2 campaign wasn't a mess?? What has been your favourite single player game?

I've watched most of the footage, but not all of it because my quota is precious. :(

It was a mess in my opinion. It was a chore to get through because the gameplay was uninteresting and frustrating.

I think I did a list in the MW2 thread, but my favourite FPS campaign this gen has been Resistance 2, followed by CoD4.
 
Resistance 2? Well there you go. Now THAT was a chore to get through, can't believe I wasted eight hours on it for a terrible ending.

Atleast in Killzone 2 the story kept you interested.

Resistance 2's ending was amazing. A totally unexpected ending to say the least.

Killzone 2's story was very incohesive. I often found myself thinking: "why am I here again?". I couldn't give a shit about any of the characters and if you thought Resistance 2 had a terrible ending, you obviously haven't even compared it to Killzone 2's "ending".

7 hours spent without anything even remotely close to a conclusion.

*looks up at sky and sees some weird black ball things, even the characters are like wtf?*

Then your arseh*le partner comes up to you and says; "It's been an honour serving you". Shoots you in the head, GAME OVER!

What a great ending that was.

**** that looks stunning, didn't watch all 3 vids as I am keeping my quota down, but that first vid is amazing, graphically it looks like it will either match or surpass Uncharted 2, which in itself is insane once again.

BTW Scooterb and RL you DO get to control your character, not just QTE's.

Here is a little bit from CGreviews.com saying that(From what I would think this is what they saw) Heavy Rain 'will blow your mind'.

The game looks like it will have an absolute shitload of different ways to take it, can't wait to see some real High Definition footage to really be able to see the graphics at their best, which will no doubt come at E3.

There's no doubt that the Japs will spooge all over it, but I don't find myself excited at all.

Graphics alone aren't going to make me buy it.

I have to agree with you scooterb, that ending in R2 gives me goosebumps watching that again, ****en awesome!

Resistance to me definitely did have more of a cohesive story to it, could've been though that because I had played both games I knew the story a lot better, having not played Killzone 1 it was very much a crash course in knowing everything for Killzone 2.

Also Killzone 2 did tend to have a very set-piece by set-piece sort of development to the story, where R2 flowed a lot better and did make a bit more sense to the overall story.

Have to say I did like Resistance 2's story more than Killzone 2's, both were fun, but IMO R2's story was indeed better and more worked out.

I wasn't having a go at you, I understand what you were saying, but really it is more or less full control, just this allows you to do stuff instead of watching a cutscene.

Sure the graphics are stunning, but this game will be all about the story, check out Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy(If you haven't already), the game will be HEAVILY(pun) story based, more so than 90% of games out today anyway.

Sorry, that "which you obviously don't get' was referring to the lack of control you get over the character - not "you (HBK) don't get it".

Came out kind of wrong. :o

Ohhhh, lol, now I get it.;)

But yeah, you don't get it in those QTE sections, but you will for what it would seem is the majority of the game(Judging by the first vid I watched anyway).

****, this is gonna be a good game!

Oh BTW, how good was the Horatio moment, glasses on AND IT'S NIGHT!!!
