I'm looking forward to the World Cup this year and very excited after the Australian win on Saturday but when i read this i had a little bit of a laugh.

After adidas and Telecom, now Heineken has joined the list of corporates dropping the ball ahead of the Rugby World Cup.

The brewer's official TV advertisement – This is the Game – talks about rugby's history and tradition but actually shows historic footage of league players who would have been banned from rugby at the time.

Over a voiceover that says: "In this house, we live by a code handed down from warriors of old", the advert cuts from modern-day shots to a black-and-white clip of players walking on to the field.[/QUOTE

I think it's typical of rugby of recent times, needing league to make itself relevent nananananananana fishing

It's pretty funny but in the end who cares. What are now two different sports were still essentially playing the same game back then.

Leading Australian rugby league historian Sean Fagan spotted the error. "It is an advert for a beer, so it's not worth getting too precious about," he said. "But I think those players would smile. The code that gave them a life ban for eschewing the amateur ideal has now resurrected them to market a professional rugby union's cup."

I agree, it isn't much really but Fagan's observation atleast highlights the ironic nature of the situation.
