I've got a copy of a footy club song, and I want to know what the real song is called that it is derived from.

Here's a couple of lines .....

"Stand up and cheer, for Norths again this year.
blue, gold and blue, Devils - yes it's true! ...."

The last lines are .....

"stand up for Norths
stand up for Norths,
stand up for Norths"

- getting louder each time!

Any ideas ?

Someone told me it was the Toreador song, but I checked a website for that song, and it didn't sound anything like it.

The song you refer to ‘Stand Up and Cheer’ has been the club song for at least 50 years that I know, of the Brisbane Northern Suburbs Rugby League Club - the Devils. They were part of the original BRL - the Brisbane Rugby League, which existed before formation of the NRL Brisbane Broncos basically killed the former comp. The Devils only survived by becoming a ‘feeder’ club for the Melbourne Storm, and only recently, won their 14th premiership since 1933. The song - it is in fact an excerpt from the Toreador Song - you have to listen for a fair way to hear it. My favourite BRL club, I have a book, written about the Devil’s history, and it contains all the words for the song. The book’s name? ‘Stand Up and Cheer’ - of course.
Sorry, nothing to do with that weird game of AFL though…
