Hey guys,

On my other computer (this is my laptop) I seem to have a problem where I connect to the internet it says dodo is now connected, theres nothing wrong with the modem or dodo's connection but if I click on internet explorer it says im not online or when I go on msn it won't let me in because I'm not connected to the internet even though I am. Has anyone had this problem before or can anyone help me because it's p*ss*ng me off :(

Stupid question but are you set to work offline? My sister always freaks out when she can't sign into msn because IE is set to working offline for whatever reason.

You could do a quick test to see if the connection is ok in other apps. For example is your email working?

If email isn't relevant, try going to Start->Run->type in cmd (or command)->OK and typing

ping www.bigfooty.com

You should get a response which indicates a connection.

also try ping 209.152.180.133

If you get a connection, it means there is something wrong with your IE installation. Check that Dodo is in the connections box in Tools->Internet Options. If that all seems ok, look into repairing/reinstalling IE.

If you find you haven't got Network connectivity, add a new connection via the network connection wizard

sounds very familar with what i have had with windows xp, along time ago back on dial-up, i had the connection directly to xp, then moved it to a smoothwall box so it ran through the nic instead of the serial port, then went back to dial up to xp via serial port, and while it would connect; ie, mozilla etc wouldn't work, the only soultion was to re-install windows, i think it had something to do with the tcp/ip, but i could never fix it, so that maybe your only soultion.

Hey I got a message saying Reply from 209.152.180.133: bytes=32 time=417ms TTL=42

If the above doesn't work, and you should definitely try it first. You might want to try and do a IE repair as per the instructions at http://www.theeldergeek.com/repair_ie6.htm I'd suggest method 2 first, but make sure you have your XP installation disks, you may need them.

Another alternative is to simply to switch to Firefox rather than use IE.

Just quickly, with the reply on the ping test I mentioned earlier, was that the reply for the ping www.bigfooty.com test or the one for the numbers or both?

Jim Boy it was for both. Could it have anything to do with Norton Antivirus because it says there is an error with email and I think that is firewalling? it. My mum might have to ring up a computer guy to come and fix it because I can't.

Sideshow Fev try disabling the anti-virus.

download mozilla/firefox and see if that works, if it does it will help eliminate certain things.

www.mozilla.org

goto your isp webpage/documentation if you can and double check all your settings, including dial-up connect and browser.

OK I just wanted to make sure it was a nameserver thing. Do what Feher sugested in terms of using the dodo reinstallation and the anti-virus. If, after that, you don't feel comfortable with the website I mentioned earlier or you don't want to go with firefox (or netscape which is the same thing), then you're looking at forking out money to get it fixed.

Ok I'l' try it tomorrow as I get home from school early on Wednesdays. Will be in contact then thanks.

Failing everything above check your Cipher Strength. In Internet Explorer go to Help>About IE and where it says Cipher Strength it should read 128-bit. I just remembered about awhile back when for some reason my Cipher Strenght went to 0-bit and I couldn't use MSN or IE but I could use Firefox.. Reinstalled IE and it worked fine but I never found out why it went like that.

I really doubt it. Unless you only installed it recently and after that things started to go screwy then I'd say no. Otherwise you could always try uninstalling it.
