Fall Out Boy

Guest
It seems that Bomber Thompson has finally realised that Peter Street is undeserving of a game, so that leaves us with the prediciment of finding someone from the current side to give King a help out.

Last week we gave Ben Graham a quick run, but i think Gumby Mooney should be a first choice back up.

Ben Graham is vital across half back, so taking him out of there would destabilise our backline, at least whilst Harley is out.

Cameron Mooney tends to have a fair few lapses during games, so a run in the ruck might be just what he needs.

Sure, his ruck work isn't up to scratch, but unless Playfair or Chambers come on (quickly), he may be our best option.

Thoughts?

I am not prepared to give up on Peter Street just yet, but this season is the one he has to make a name for himself otherwise he will be traded and be replaced on our list by Rod Blake's son.

Mark Blake's been named at CHF for the Falcons.Lets hope he can play forward and ruck.

Help for King. Never. Why would you want to do that? :o

Seriously, I bloody well hope that Blake wants to play for us. Never seen the kid play but he has to be better than both Street and Chambers combined, I mean if I was 20cm taller I'd be better a ruck and my sporting achievements amount to dishing out cheap shots behind play. Our best option at the moment is Mooney, we could do with a 4 man bench (maybe then someone who deserves a game will get selected), and it doesn't take away from the forward line - just get Kingy one out in the goal square and he will murder anyone with his body strength.

Thanks JUBJUB, I was trying to remember his name, Mark Blake... hopefully he has a good year for the Falcons.

Blake most definitely does want to play for the Catters, and yes, he can play.

I don't want to go OTT with such a young kid, but he has the talent to be anything.

The scary thing is that he's still growing.

We have a lot to look forward to, talented and athletically gifted 195-198cm ruckman are hard to find.

It sounds cruel, but I would ditch Street first chance we get. I know Geelong have spent a lot of time and effort on him, but my personal opinion is that supertall gangly ruckman are just about USELESS in modern football (quick examples - Burton, Capuano). To make it as a ruckman you need to be either a ruck rover like Darcy or excellent at reading the play like King and Primus. Street is neither. I'd remind all Cat fans that our best streak last year was when Cameron Mooney was relieving Kingy in the ruck and although he wasn't winning hitouts he was very good in general play. If he fails throw Benny Graham in there, his marking around the ground will more than make up for hitouts. I think we've got probably the only ruckman in the comp that can literally ruck all day in any case.

I think Chambers shows potential, you've got to remember he's only been at the club a couple of years. And most 'rookie listed' players, whether they're superstars or duds, struggle to break into the side.

Face value says you're right, but if you look at Unco play, you'll see the he lacks the fundamentals and confidence to make it.

No matter how long you give a kid, if they don't have the fundamentals, they will never make it.

Fair call, I still say give him some time. Street is as useless as you can get though.

That is one thing Chambers has got plenty of, time.

Assuming Street goes at seasons end, Geelong would be loathe to take in only two ruckman on the list (King, Blake), so that may give Unco another opportunity.

Based on the last couple of matches, Geelong needs to play 2 ruckman in the senior side to allow King the opportunity of resting in our forward line. If we continue to leave the rucks to King for the entire game, the opposition will wear him down and run over the top of us in the 2nd half.

It would also give our team more flexibility and create another marking option up forward, something we desperately need at the moment.
