We know deep down they loves the cats and tigers. Let's help them decide who to support this weekend.
Geelong are the sentimental favourites, and will start as the underdog. Chris Scott
has been much maligned in the football world as the worst finals coach in the history of the sport. Here is his chance at redemption. Plus, the great Gazza could retire as a premiership hero. The highly likeable Patrick Dangerfield
could also win that first elusive premiership. The other benefit of Geelong winning, of course, is that the Bay will empty of Hawthorn supporters for the next 5 months. There might even be the odd Richmond supporter taking a break, I dare say.
As for the tigers, well there is some upside there as well. Can you imagine another flag for this amazing outfit? It would make it 3 flags in 4 years, a true dynasty. That's one more premiership in 4 years, than Collingwood have managed in the last 60 years. Also it would be a story of redemption. Who could forget Chol-gate, the sexual assault of a much-loved cult hero by two of Richmond's senior players? The fact that Richmond almost brought the whole season crashing down with the brawl outside a GC nightclub. The on-field acting and flopping of Nick Vlastuin
, and the ever-popular Dylan Grimes
. The sniping and thuggery of Tom Lynch. And then there were the antics of Brooke and Trent. But they have turned things around and have surely earned the respect of the entire AFL community. After unearthing the prodigiously talented Shai Bolton
and Noah Balta
, this Richmond side looks destined for 2-3 more grand final appearances, at least, in the coming years. And with the GF to return to its rightful place, the MCG, Richmond should start favourites in each of those games. It's hard not to respect this world-record breaking club.
Get on board the tiger train Pie fans.
