Help wanted please, re Adelaide

Sorry this has got nothing to do with footy, but I'm flying over to Adelaide this friday and staying the night, flying back saturday arvo. Will be attending Cheltenham races on Saturday. Would like to stay in a hotel that is around the 4 star mark. Is it best to stay near the casino, say the stamford plaza? How far out of town is cheltenham racecourse? Any other suggestions where might be a good place to stay? I'm not into clubbing and I'm on my own so I would like to stay within walking distance of an establishment where i can have a drink and bet friday evening.

Any suggestions?

Just stay at the stamford,radission (name change) or the hyatt they are on North Terrace right next to everything (including taxi berths), that way you can walk accross to the road afterwards to the casino

Im pretty certain there is a train that goes straight out to Cheltenham, so if you stay at the Radisson the traing station is directrly across the road, as is the Casino.

Stamford Plaza is a damn good hotel - food is superb there. It and the Raddison are excellent hotels and located right near the casino.

For a slightly cheaper 4 star hotel dead opposite the casino there is the Mercure Grosvenor Hotel - still a pretty good standard.

I'd pay the bit extra though and stay at the Stamford personally.

The railway is across the road under the casino and has a train direct to the course on racedays - about 5 to 6 kms out of town at a guess.

Thanks for the info, seems like the stamford is the go. everything's so close i love it. my missus told me today i needed to stay close to where i'd be drinking on friday night so i dont have cab problems (i'm notorious for ringing her 9.30 on a friday night half rotten asking her to come down the local to pick me up - 10min walk home is way too far for me - and the cabs just never seem to want to pick me up )

the Cabs here are shockiing, well there not bad, its just you cannot find one when you want one.

Definately got to stay somewhere where you can walk home.

Hilton in Melb has cheap rates for one night stays so i guess ours has the same and fron there it would be roughly 15 dollars in a cab
