3DS Help with ROMs

First off, I am not asking for links to download anything. Anyway, a family friend's child has been admitted to hospital after a leukemia diagnosis. I have gone out and bought him a Stargate 3ds, so he can play a variety of games, without financially burdening his parents. The problem is, all files are in .rar format, and it appears that the card only supports .nds and .3ds formats.
Is there any way to convert .rar files to the required format?

Download winrar and unzip the rar file. Rar is just a compressed file containing the actual file.
