cricket,
when I first heard we had hidden away a basketball convert with some footy experience I had high hopes the we had that gem that we were looking for. move on a few years and he has given us some great moments but unfortunately we remember him mainly for his lack of ticker. I feel that I have judged him quite harshly, everybody deserves a chance to settle in especially someone from his basketball background.
fast forward to this year and im not sure what hendo has been taking but hes been a revelation in the backlines, his marking, his kicking to position is up with the best of them and his run out of the backlines absolutely first class.bloody great effort from hendo and I hope he plays a lot more games for the crows.

Not every player can be Patrick Dangerfield and Lenny Hayes. It takes all kinds. He may not be the hardest nut, but it doesn't mean he doesn't have a place in the side. He has done a brilliant job filling Reilly's role the last few weeks. I'm definitely a fan.

Are you suggesting he's not filling Reilly's spot, or are you saying they can co-exist when he comes back? Who would make way? Otten?

Haha yeah there's absolutely no way Brent is getting his job back. He's never had a game in his career as good as Hendo was today.

Looks like Sando will have to find another place to hide another role for Reilly next season.

One thing I LOVED about Hendo's game today was his tackling. He laid 4 STRONG tackles (these may well have been the first 4 strong tackles of his career) and caught at least 2 blokes (may have been 3) holding the ball. Did anyone honestly wake up today thinking that was a chance of happening?

Great all-round performance by Hendo today. I don't expect him to be that good every week, but if he can perform to 75% of that level he'd be welcome in our starting 18 every week for the next 6 years. :thumbsu:

Hendomania! What a month he has put together. Pace, intercept marks, long kicking he has it all.

I think we have run out of places to hide Reilly.

I want to know if aliens invaded Hendo's body today??

In all honesty he had a great game but what really surprised me today was his level of hardness/aggression. At one point the ball went out of bounds in the south western pocket and he ran back pumping both fists and revving up his team mates.

Could not believe that it was Hendo doing this. I hope we see more of this Hendo more often.

Hendo has be great for the last few weeks. He has found his spot. The next test is shaking the tag which he will no doubt cop if he continues playing this way.

He is in rare form!

His athleticism and height may aid this. Two thing Reilly does not have and the reason the tag cut his game down this year.

No I'm saying "if" he maintains this form and improvement then he may push Reilly out

I hope so, but I don't hold that much faith in our selection commitee.

His last couple of weeks have been good against quality opposition and he does give make our defense quicker where we were a little slow.

Does kind of make you wonder where Reilly plays next year?

In the reserves. He can be reserves skipper. :thumbsu:

Playing as that loose tall in the backlines who sets up play can do wonders for the right player - the lack of pressure from a dedicated opponent disguises all kinds of flaws, while allowing that player's strengths to really shine.

Reilly has been in this role during Sando's tenure and it's disguised a lot of his flaws, while highlighting his strengths (excellent overhead mark, good kick when not under pressure). However, it is clear that Henderson is much more suited to this role. He's every bit as good a mark (the extra height probably helps), and when he's allowed to kick unpressured he's very reliable. He also has genuine pace and is not scared to use it, which has always been the thing I've liked the most about Henderson. And his deficiencies in contested ball are not so exposed.

I hope we continue to use him in this role going forward :thumbsu: Since it's an "easy" role, you may as well choose a somewhat flawed player who has real strengths to take advantage of, rather than simply a player whose deficiencies need hiding.

Hendo has seemed more physically capable in recent days to be honest. His tackling has improved a lot too. Its good to see because that's been one of his major detractions.

I love his pace coming out of defence. If we can get Hendo and Shaw in defence, with Brown and Laird taking the small forwards, we'll have enough speed in the back half to push Smith into the midfield.

That makes me happy.

He has usurped Reilly.
Radar might struggle to make the 22 now consdiering he is totally unaccountable and cant really play anywhere else.
