How is it digging in? BtG heard other clubs were interested, just because a deal doesn't get done doesn't make it untrue.

A deal for Goddard didn't get done either. This must mean that no clubs were interested in him.

Goddard was never on the table and if he was the only way that it would break down would be because a club couldn't come up with enough first round picks for him.

Brisbane most likely offered a late 3rd/4th rounder for Slattery but Essendon were foolish enough to think that our scraps were going to net something to help us get Caddy.

Shock horror, a deal involving Henry Slattery to get a pick worthy of offering to the GC for Caddy fell through. Just assume that I'm right here for a second, why wouldn't Essendon try to upgrade our 3rd round pick a couple of places by swapping Slattery and our 3rd round for North Melbourne's 3rd round? Something for nothing.

That's a strawman and you know it.

We never tried to trade Slattery for a pick to go straight to GC. He would have been part of a package along with whatever else, and there was never any direct value for him. In other words it's not like we threw in Slattery and Brisbane threw in pick X.

Who cares whether it was GC, Bris or Timbucktoo - Fact is that I have read for the last 2 years that Slattery is well rated within AFL circles - And that clubs were interested in recruiting him - When push came to shove - Nothing eventuated.

And that Slattery's poor form is always the fault of other players. It is never because of Slattery's OWN performance.

Give me a break.:(

For the last month I have read that Josh Caddy was rated highly in AFL circles, but when push came to shove no one was interested.

Pretty childish...

To have Slattery and Caddy in the same debate shows ignorence.

Fact is very few would be interested in acquiring Slattery onto their list. The main reason he remains at Essendon is because we're still 1 - 2 years away from cleaning out the tyre kicker era.

I couldn't imagine more than a couple of clubs maybe trading a pick 80 for Slattery. On the other hand, everyclub in the league would trade for Caddy.

This is the first year Henry has been on the table...as i have said before, he has had offers from Brisbane in the past, bloody good offers too, but he turned them down to stay with Essendon, playing for less, but playing with his mates and the EFC

Henry getting to Brisbane relied on us getting Caddy. It didn't happen. Henry gets another year with us, which was his preferred option. He may be traded next year, but who knows......

I realise that it is harder to trade out a contracted player - No problem with that.

Have a problem when posters say that a poor game by Slattery is the fault of others or trading out Slattery is affected by Caddy.

Thought is was a far-fetched effort to recruit Caddy - Probably making Henry one of the key pieces of the puzzle is bewildering.

Anyway Slattery will have to convince the coaching panel of his worth.

And I have a problem when Slattery is blamed for goals kicked when he was on the bench.

And who said Slattery was a key part of the deal?

1 more year and he'll be gone along with NLM, Dyson and a decade of list miss management will be behind us.

Slattery is an ordinary seconds player. He wouldn't polish the boots of any genuine finals contender. A one trick pony who doesn't even excel at his one trick...

My source tells me Caddy told GC within 24 hours of their last game. My source is extremely credible. GC were never going to let him go.

He said Slattery going to Brisbane was reliant on Caddy coming to us.

Thats an absolute crock of shite.

James Hird and the Essendon Football Club wanted Josh Caddy. That was priority number one. That is what the club spent the whole week trying to achieve. All other trades were to be done after or as a part of a deal to get Caddy. Not that hard to understand. He was our sole focus during trade week. Operation get Caddy. Nothing else was as important....the deal couldn't be achieved, we had just enough time to push one trade through....getting a pick upgrade for rookie (correct me if I'm wrong on that trade) was the best deal at the time. So we took it.

Well if this is the case our football is run by a bunch of incompetent nuffies.

Got it Now - It is Hird's fault that Slattery wasn't traded.

This will be the never ending thread. ;)

Did you want Slattery to do the negotiation and paperwork?

He is not Chris Judd, mate. A deal would not have been difficult at all if they were that interested.
