Alternatively we in this era of caps on football department spending, have done our due diligence and are making sure we get our moneys worth rather than having to pay over the odds to poach someone which limits our ability to spend in other areas.

I don't think we need to necessarily poach anyone, and with the cap on department spending we can't pay huge salaries to attract anyone that way. There have to be good up and coming high performance managers looking to get a promotion. The trick is to find these guys and gal's.

imho it is this rationalism, which has turned us from a club in trouble to one of the most financially secure clubs and successful in the league.

Also I think it is probably why Balme has gone to Collingwood. They were prepared to pay overs to secure him, and we weren't prepared to match it in order to keep it.

Its not a bad thing per say, what is important is that it sounds like Geelong have been attempting to mitigate the key man risk since the first day he was appointed. Which is encouraging and bodes well. Even if Steven Hocking is not Neil Balme.

You could say this about Hocking, at least he's a former Geelong player and a Geelong man through and through. Balme was never those things, and never will be. He was a paid employee of the club.

Which is one of the reasons I am very happy with his appointment BNF. I look at the way these things have been handled by the club and compare them to our competition and I am very glad to be a Geelong Man. Its a way of operating that ensure that even if you don't have the very best candidate possible in every position you will always be able to have very good people, who know what they are doing.

Proud to support the most professional club in the land.

Sure.

But watch his interview on Open Mike and say that he does not care for the club.

Whoever is our new fitness gurus, i just hope the club has kept its "best person available" mantra.

I am good mates with one of Jord's brothers. He does work out a few AFL players in the off season including Gazza in the past, but I would be very surprised if he is coming.

The press conference the other day alluded to 2 people who have accepted offers but are unable to be currently named due to their existing positions. Not much else was said apart from that they are not coming from another AFL club.
Interesting that it's potentially 2 people sharing the position again. Obviously the club liked how that went last time...

Good news, sounds like they've put together a decent team of people. However, the proof of the pudding is in the eating - so our boys need to badly improve on only being about to play 2 quarters of high intensity football per game as per last season.

I like the sound of this. With a long period of silence I was starting to worry but this sounds like a planned and well-executed target of expertise. Hopefully this is just the tonic.

Sounds like two great appointments for the High Performance area of the club.
Glad to see we're having discrete managers for the entire list and the academy. Having a performance manager dedicated to the younger/developing bodies of draftees and young players is a great move by the club.
Oops
Think I've just posted similar thoughts to you in the other thread. Sorry :(
I wasn't cribbing... honest!!!

This is know of like the way the Lakers operate as well. There are rumours and departures but you don't hear much, if anything form the club itself and then WHAM - out it comes.

Not saying that they are keeping us deliberately in the dark but they give nothing away and then announce.

I have no issues with that as it can't or wont compromise the situation with early announcements etc.

I call it maintaining a high standard of professionalism and personal respect. All professional organisations should operate this way really.

I just think that by beefing up the academy's capabilities, the club is really showing that it still places a high priority on building through drafting youth. Stoked to hear it. I'm not overly keen on the trade route personally - it has it's place, but the draft/development is where we really shine.

In Balme/Cook/Hocking press conference they let slip that they had signed two people to the high-performance roles, but said they couldn't announce who because they were involved with other positions at that time but would be available once preseason training starts. Once they were free of those jobs the announcement would be made. So I think the lack of announcements is not meant to irk supporters, but just how professional sporting organisations are run.

Was not suggesting it was meant to irk us - however there have been plenty going off tap about the club " not being upfront on an informational basis" with hits supporter base. I can see they want transparency but sometimes silence the cards close to the chest is the better of the options.

I guess there's a balance in what clubs need to disseminate so that supporters know what's happening, and what they keep close to their chest because they don't want opposition clubs knowing what's happening. More often than not the supporters are the ones that suffer in that equation.

fine - much rather that than the club being an open book and missing out all the time on stiff because of it.

And yet you doubt the memories a group of us who were at the game, watching him hulk around, looking far less sprightly than he had?
Only stating what we recalled from the time.
Anyway, all will be revealed soon enough, thick or thin.

I doubt it in the sense that I vaguely recall something else but have no confidence in that recollection yes. If you feel that is me doubting what you saw with any sense of conviction then I'm not sure what else I can do besides going 'MEMORY IS TRASH MEMORY IS TRASH MY BRAIN IS GOOP LA DI DA DI DA'.

What I am confidently railing against is the concept of being muscle bound. Vardy may be very cumbersome but that shouldn't be the inherent problem.

Has anyone any news on the rumour that Scarlett and Mooney will both be involved in some sort of coaching deal in 2015?

No- but one coaching at each end would be a Cats supporter's dream!!!
Scarlett is coaching South Barwon again next year, I think. If he came to the Cattery, I guess he'd be doing something similar to his input at the kennels this year.

No I haven't but I'd be all for it if it were true that's for sure! Provided that these people were good at translating their message from how they played into how they teach I'm all for our former Champions coming back to the club to help make a difference to our current playing list.
