Pretty interesting. There's been a few instances around the country of teams getting 100 goals.

One would think there is or should be a game abandonment rule when one side has only 11 players though.

Kind of diminishes the feat.
There certainly is now, the laws of the game state a minimum of 14, but a controlling body has the right to vary.

Certainly here in Sydney senior footy, the minimum to either start or continue a game is 14.

In addition to that, in some of the grades here in Sydney (lower senior grades & under 19s) the following applies:

During Home and Away matches, there will be eighteen (18) on field plus four (4) interchange players with the following exception:
*If one, or both, teams have eighteen (18) players or less listed on the team list the number of ‘on field’ players at the start of the match shall be sixteen (16) players on the field, unless both teams agree to start with seventeen (17) or eighteen (18) ‘on field’ players.

I would think most controlling bodies have similar provisions in place.

There was a match Campbell's Creek vs Primrose (or something similar) probable around 15-20 years ago one of the teams kicked 110 goals.
It was a senior match.
Think its the Castlemaine or Daylesford league.

34 behinds in a game. Terrible kicking from Campbells Creek.

Truthfully I don't know if I really rate those kinds of scores. Seems in poor taste / bad sport, especially in an amateur league.

Plus they just turn people away from the game. They achieve nothing apart from creating records.

I remember that game occurring in Sydney football.

Blacktown kicked 313 points in 18 games that season and conceded 4233 points. Their reserve grade started the season but didn't see it out.

The next season Blacktown supposedly "merged" with Parramatta, but it was for all intents and purposes a takeover.

That shows how destructive one-sided romps like the above can be and why I am glad they are no longer so prevalent in the game.

Yes, if you have a look at that link you'll see they have two of the top three Tassie scores, and another high one from 1998. I have only copied what's in the other thread, I certainly didn't provide any of those scores:-

Wasn't criticising. It's just an amazing stat from a team that actually dropped out of the comp a few years later due to numbers, only to reform and then win a bundle of flags...

In those days of the VFA, clubs fielded seniors, reserves and u/19s, if you couldn't field any one, you would get kicked out of the comp, hence Geelong West continually fielding u/19 teams with the bare minimum required to start the game. They had already forfeited games during the season and the league had threatened them with expulsion.

They would grab a kid just walking past the ground and give them a game. I had a mate with a broken arm that played one day just so they could start. I'm pretty sure he played in the game they had 90+ goals kicked against them. From memory, in that game, the full forward kicked something like 56 goals.

My mate asked me to play one game, 2 days after I'd had my leg taken out of plaster after breaking it in the first round of the season in one of the local leagues.

From u/14s through to u/18s I played in a dominant local side, there was the odd occasion when the opposition didn't have enough players to start the game (either 13 or 14 in an 18 a side comp) we just lend them a couple of ours so we could get a game.

I certainly didn't think you were criticising! It's all good, as they say!!

BTW, looking at that list it does seem strange that 1993 provided the three highest scores ever in Tasmanian football!

They have a mercy rule in some forms of baseball for a reason.

The sad truth is that many of those matches can be marked with an asterisk on the basis that teams may have had significantly less than the regular number allowed.

Another way of looking at is as when Zimbabwe were an incredibly bad cricket team and most test playing sides ( Pakistan excepted it would seem) would trounce them almost with care extinguishing speed.

And South Burnie kicked, I think it was 62 goals in a game against Yolla in the Darwin Football Association last Saturday.
Yolla have been on the end of some horrible hidings as have Sheffield and occasionally Spreyton. Big rumblings out of the North West that there could be another restructure on the cards, with the NWFA and Darwin comps merging to put weaker clubs agaist each other and stronger ones likewise in a two tier comp.
The end is nigh for a few more clubs out of the North West if it continues as is.
Interesting to note, in those record scores posted above, Woodsdale, Colebrook, Quandeine, Cambridge, North Derwent and Railway Football Clubs have all folded.
Tasman Football Association folded in the early 2000s.

I was at the Waverley-Sunshine game in about '81 when Waverley won by 52 goals-something to 8-something. For a game between professional teams (well, the players got a few bucks. I'm sure) - but it was a pretty sad day (I am (or was) a Waverley supporter).

Kick 13 goals by 1/4 time - great!!
Kick 30 goals by 1/2 time - hmmm - this is worrying.
Kick 40 goals by 3/4 time - this is terrible. (But our full-forward kicked 23 goals! So there!!:D:D:D).

There's no point in playing those games - such a mis-match is unfair to everyone. If I raced against Usain Bolt - guess what? He'd beat me. So what? Would anyone really see any point in that?

Mis-matches occur in lower leagues all the time due to uneven funds, availability of players, training conditions etc. It's unfortunate, but best to be ignored. People who celebrate them (like those quoted in the News report in the OP) need to get a grip. It's supposed to be a game.

FWIW - I remember the initial reports about the 110-goal game. I definitely believe it happened. But, yeah, whatever.
