Mob, now you mention it I remember seeing an article about Geelong West that year copping unblelievable floggings (4 or 5 hundred plus) all season in the Ressies and thirds - then somehow winning a solitary game by ten points.

This match was played on the same weekend that Ross Gibbs went on a goal kicking spree against Port Elliot in the Great Southern Football League.

You should chase this up Mobby. From memory, the scores would make your top 10 quite easily (Ross Gibbs kicked 20-30+ goals). PE lost the previous week by only a slightly less margin that may also be a top 10 contender. They even featured in the Sunday Mail speculating about the imminent demise of the club, didn't happen thankfully.

raboyle, rest easy now ... the score that causes you so much anguish has been eclipsed by 10 others, it no longer makes the top 10 SA scores!
Whoops - 100th, not 1000th.Originally posted by Uncle Steve
His final kick for the day, after the siren, brought up his 1000th goal of the season.

Naturally, I have an article celebrating Gibbs' 30 goals in my archive of newspaper clippings:
What a booty: 30 goals!
Thirty goals kicked by one man in a single game - or a goal every 3min20sec over the entire 100 minutes of the match.
That amazing feat was achieved by former Glenelg star Ross Gibbs at Port Elliot on Saturday.
Gibbs, known as "Mr. Cool" during his SANFL career, said he was shaking when he lined up for his 30th goal after the final siren.

Sorry NM, I don't have that one, but your story was familiar to me. I reckon I heard it on the radio. However I thought he tried to kick the goal just dacks-off, not fully starkers.Originally posted by naughty monkey
Uncle Steve may have a cutting regarding this story too...
Please post it if you do, US.
