I'm curious to what type of team people would have picked if they knew the first 5 rounds of results... Also post what you wish you would have done differently ect.

This would have been my hindsight team "if" it fit in the salary cap...

Backs: Goddard, Cornes, Lockyer, Bowden, Gilbert, Houlihan and Geary
EMG: Rance and Suban

Mids: Ablett, Bartel, Swan, Gibbs, Rich and Otten
EMG: Moss and Whitecross

Rucks: Cox and Fraser
EMG: Graham and Meesen

Forwards: Chapman, Johnson, Riewoldt, Davey, Higgins, Krakouer, Ziebell
EMG: Walker and Brown

What's yours?:thumbsu:

Was going to start a thread like this at the end of the season but anyway.

Backs: Goddard, Cornes, Lockyer, Adcock, Gilbert, Houlihan and Geary
EMG: Rance and Hill

Mids: Ablett, Bartel, Foley, Gibbs, Rich and Beams
EMG: Moss and Whitecross

Rucks: Cox and Fraser
EMG: Graham and Meesen

Forwards: Richo, Deledio, Riewoldt, Davey, Higgins, Krakouer, Ziebell
EMG: Walker and Brown

Doesn't look too different to my current dreamteam

Goddard, Cornes, Lockyer, Waite, Adcock, Gilbert, Houlihan
EMG: Suban, Rance

Ablett, Swan, Boyd, Gibbs, Rich, Otten
EMG: Moss, Whitecross

Cox, McIntosh
EMG: Graham, Meesen

Riewoldt, Chapman, SJ, Higgins, Krakouer, Davey, Ziebell
EMG: Walker, Brown

Im pretty sure that would have fitted under the salary cap.

In hindsight don't run out of salary cap before you get to the forward line

I was wondering how it is possible to score sub 1000

That's disgraceful for the fact that it doesn't even contain any of the obvious forward rookies like Walker, Brown, Garlett, Thompson, Thorp, Nahas, etc.

Its a standard team mate in the general public (ie many ranked 120k-250k)

Most people put 76k rookies on their bench unless they have a gut feeling about someones cool name.

Always interesting to see that some quality forwards fall very quickly in price. Players such as Pavlich, Franklin, Didak, Goodwin, Okeffe, Brown ect. Have all fallen quite a bit. Something i may consider next year is going with just 2 premium forwards as its always easy to trade in fallin gun forwards. Im almost better of keeping Krak and Higgins ATM because upgrading them really isnt an upgrade ATM. So i just need my premium forwards to fire.

The rucks well i think i know i made a mistake going with Hille and MAC it gave me plenty of money but really never leave Cox out is a key and almost a rule i wont break again.

The mids i think will be loaded by me in years to come with more premiums, they make the points more than any other position and buying players like A/B/C/S from the start doesnt hurt even though their expensive they get pleny of points.

Backs is always a tough ask but i think i got it pretty right.

Im similar to Lakey i cant see what i have really got wrong this year. Sure i have picked players such as Dalziell and Hille who are now injured but you cant predict that as they wernt considered durability poor. Also same goes with Raines and Anthony.

The only problem i see is i didnt select Cox.

I just need my premiums to fire at the same time and more consistantly. My forward premiums have been poor. Gia, Didak, Dids and Goodwin also Hille did end up letting me down big time. I just cant wait to get him very cheap next year.

Re: Hindsight Dreamteam SOLVED

Thought I should apply some mathematics to this and do the optimisation. Here's a team you could (should?) have bought for $7,474,300 ($231,700 in the bank) and be averaging 2,273 points so far, leading the comp by 650 points or so.

BACKS: Gilbert, Thornton, Harding, Chaplin, Lockyer, Urquhart, C.Cornes; Rance, Dawson
MIDFIELD: Ablett (C), O'Bree, A.Selwood*, Dal Santo, Gibbs, Montagna; Moss, Picken
RUCKS: Fraser, McIntosh; Graham, Jacobs* (or White for $62,000 more)
FORWARDS: Higgins, Krakouer, Houlihan, Davey, McMahon, Wiggins, Chapman; M.Brown, Walker

Next in line included Swallow, S.Cox, Russell, Ryder, Priddis, Davis; Whitecross, Rich, Suban, Ziebell were good for the bench. The team above has already increased in value by $1.8million.

I was happy to have picked Urquhart & Davis that weren't on a lot of people's lists at the start (as well as the obvious ones like Higgins, Krakouer, Houlihan, Chad), but other than that my actual DT is woeful ...

Re: Hindsight Dreamteam SOLVED

Problem with that team though, is that you have too many upgrades to make. I count 10, maybe 11 keepers.

And you still have 20 trades, no injuries & $230k in the bank. Your weakest midfielder is averaging 99, you have two of the best four rucks, and only one on-field player is averaging less than 80 (Urquhart 77). Potentially you'd look to bring in Waite, Goddard, Bowden, or McPhee for even bigger scores if the others fall out of form, but honestly 20/22 players are in the top 20 averages for their position.

Realistically a hindsight team is never going to tell you a winning strategy, just point out players who have blossomed. And you missed out *pffft* The notion of "keeper" doesn't really apply to an artificial team like this, but I'm sure it could be managed to a convincing overall win from here.

Just a few changes, out Hille, in HMAC, out Harvey, in Roo.

Maybe bring in Mundy, Russel and a few others as well.

No-one had Mundy in there hindsight team? Jeez, still sliding under the radar! :p

I'm more suprised at how unpopular Matthew Boyd and Jude Bolton are. Glad I've had them since Day 1 though :thumbsu::D

You're right. A lot of people who are new to the game, or just aren't that smart to it, don't understand or think about the concept of 'cash cows' and so on, and therefore just put whoever is cheapest in reserve spots, to make sure they have enough cash for the players on the ground. I know I did it when I first started playing back in 2004, and so did many other people I know.

Some people also willingly pick defensive backmen like Ben Rutten and so on too, just because they are good players in real life, thinking that'll somehow mean they'll score well in Dream Team, without thinking about the player's actual role in their respective teams. I have a good friend who pretty much ruined his chances from the word go this year with stuff like this, as well as the 'whoever is cheapest' concept for his reserves, and he's been playing as long as I have, and is just now realising (thanks to some friendly advice from me, and I'm by no means an expert or even pretend to be) why he never gets anywhere.
