Has always played well at VFL level, never at AFL.

most people have written him off, but i was also going to start a thread similar to this - its still possible this kid can come good (at least as a depth player in a good side).

I watched him as a junior and rated him. Lets not forget he was a pick 20 odd in a very strong draft.

Sure he has had a a bad run with injury and various issues at Essendon, but if his body and head are right, he has the talent. He'll never be the game breaker or super flashy type, but what he will give you is maniacal attack on the footy, a big body at the contest and pretty good inside mid game. He could well yet turn out to be one of those "blue collar" midfielders that every true challenger team needs to be always at the cusp of selection, pushing the other mids to keep their standards high and always performing when he does get a chance through injury, suspension or poor form.

Ya gotta love his attack on the footy - obviously Dimma does.

He has a chance again and he knows its his last. The sub rule is good for guys like him.

Good luck slops.

Good point re the sub rule.

Love his crash & bash style that makes the oppposition hear footsteps, will be a welcomed relief for Kingy as another club enforcer. Plus he can play. :thumbsu:

Can't kick, can't see him displacing any of our current inside mids. Also has a poor work ethic in regards to off-field work.

Please explain, Spluff ... the poor work ethic off-field bit?
I know people who know him well and often seen this posted about him, but my sources have me believe otherwise.
So if you have some evidence etc., spill them beans?
I for one am hoping he can get a good run at things injury-free and prove his worth!

i suspect goldy this would relate to his earlier days that cost him at ESS, my understanding is it was his ETHIC that the RFC saw in him that warranted a punt in overcoming a knee injury that plagued him in 2010...good luck to him, i hope he has a decent run at it in the ressies 4 or more games and really belts the door down for a game...I like the boy

Depth player at best, I see him and Tuck competing for the same spot.

Hislop is not fit to tie Tucks bootlaces. Very ordinary kick , useless hand ball skills , has no trouble finding or marking the ball but play breaks down once he gets it. Similar to Kane Pettifer he just doesn't take his first option and then causes a turn over and we get scored against.

I can't see too much changing with Hislop and I have one question for those who watched Coburg play on Sunday. How was his disposal and decision making, Has it improved ?

Tom Hislop
Made an impressive return to senior VFL football.. Played in the midfield and provided a strong contest at the stoppages. Applied strong tackles, had 25 possessions, and used the ball well.

Not many players can have the long layoff this kid had with his injuries and come back and play the way he did.

I'll believe it when I see it. The guy has played 20 odd pus games for Richmond and has never hurt any team by foot only fierce tackling. I'd love to see the coaching staff improve his disposal and then take another look at him but unfortunately there is more of a chance of Milli Vanilli singing their own songs than that happening and one of them is dead.

All these people blowing smoke up his arse please refer to pre season Hislop re rookied thread and read your own comments. Shame on you!

The coaching staffs biggest challenge by far!

Was going to make the same thread. Like eays, the best I see him becoming is a depth player. Not sure if he was really worth persisting with beyond that, when you can get a player with prospects like Dylan Grimes in the PSD you know there's more talent out there.

Goldy, all I heard coming out of his Essendon days was conceit and laziness, ending his tenure there. People may change but in this instance who knows. Let's hope his injuries and history have given him the humility and perspective necessary to fuel the determination necessary to win a berth in the team and win us over.

I don't think anyone is blowing smoke up his ass, just hoping that he comes good
Can't see why anyone would want a Richmond player to fail yet some seem to want that for the players they don't rate
