Saturday 28th July 2001 is the date the Fremantle Dockers last lost to a Victorian opponent at Subiaco , that just underlines the enormity of the job at hand for Essendon. I am not writing Essendon off , I expect a cracking game and any Victorian theories of Freo not having any finals experience is all a myth , team wise yeah its all new , but coach Connolly has been within a kick of a GF while assistant at Hawtorn ( & me suspects he was the Brains behind the Hawks that year ) , Peter Bell has 2 premeirships , Des Headland has 1 , Troy Simmonds has played a GF aswell , Farmer will play he has finals experience , and the big thing Essendon will be against is 40,000 Freo fans swinging from the rafters on Friday in full voice anyone who heard Freo fans last nite in the Derby would probably be surprised that there were only about 6,000 fans who got tickets out of the 43,000... imagine the noise coming from Subi on Friday :D

Right on man...right on.

We know we can beat the Bombers, as we dealt with them quite nicely earlier in the season at Subi. As you well pointed out, expect a downright hellacious show of football class, as we knock the Bombers out of September action, begin our path to the flag.

I think you can beat the bombers too but do remember that come finals time things get much tighter and finals experience shows. All in all I think you can win but be ready for a fight cause thats what finals is all about. Can your boys lift the intensity against the bombers? I think you can.

Here's some more history for you FH ...

Sunday 8 September 1991.

The first ever final at Subiaco, between the Eagles and the Hawks. In one corner, we had the Eagles coming off a stellar season, becoming a powerhouse and winning the minor premiership with a 19:3 winning record. Three games clear of 2nd. On the other side we had Hawthorn, the dominant team of the 1980's starting a long, slow descent, a team that had not won in WA since 1989, and even then by less than a kick.

The Eagles were playing their first ever home final (and their fifth overall) and were expected to clean up easily. The only team that hadn't read the script was Hawthorn.

It wasn't supposed to happen. The record books showed how it couldn't possibly happen. But it did.

So your lot were losers and chokers then?? Bet you're glad they were able to get their act together after that...;)

Just cos it happened to you 12 years ago means nothing.

Good luck at "Amy's place" - I think you'll be needing it.

Nothing's a given, but we should go in as favourites. To quote our learned buddy, Socrates (of the Dockerland variety) - this is going to be the Colosseum of Pain on Friday night.

The fact that nobody has beaten you at home since 2001 means nowt.

I'm not disagreeing for one second carny....... I'm saying history is history but we would have to be considered favourites for the game this week.

The bombers are the Boys from the Bubble - they are not too crash hot away from their comfort zone.

But I never make stupid comments like "we're gonna whup your butts this weekend" because inevitably it will come back to bite you on the bum.

Just ask some of your mates on the eagles board.....:p

I think we have a bloody good chance of coming away grinners on friday night, but it's finals and its a different ballgame. And whether it happened to the eagles 12 years ago, or to Port 12 months ago is irrelevant.

besides, those two teams were the dominant teams of the respective home and away seasons... You can hardly say that for us this year (2005 will no doubt be different;) ).
Esp after we got done by the bubbleboys just 2 weeks ago to the tune of 10 goals.
The stories are quite different for WC 1992, PA 2002 and Fremantle 2003.

Just think that on 5 Sept, 2003, 5th placed Freo will be slight favourites in the game at home against 8th placed bombers.

WC 1992 and PA 2002 hold no relevance to us at all.
