Havent heard much at all re his recovery.
Anyone got any info on how he is going with it?

With our kids continuing to improve where will he fit into our team and plans?

Considering a few quality players will return before Hoops he will need to push someone of some quality out when he returns.
Do we want him to push the likes of Armfield or Grigg out of the team?

We all know he has great skills but the trade off is his lack of pace and physicality.

Do ppl here think he strill has a long term future as a regular in our 22 or will he eventually be replaced by someone with more pace and a better defensive to his game ?

Hoops in the forward line is my best bet when/if he comes back into the side. I still think he has a future at the club or hope he does:o.

Think he will most likely be pushing russel out of the side as HF is where hoops will most likely play if /when he comes back in. Surely we've learnt ryan isnt a defender!? And in the midfield I cant see him pushing anyone out of there. Upforward and roaming in the midfield now and again is my best bet but unlike seasons before, ryan we'll have to EARN his spot in the team. No walk up starts anymore.

Will be very interesting to see what the coaching staff do with hoops when fit... the big plus for mine is that we now have the depth to play him in the forward line where he can be a multiple goal kicker which is at present what we are lacking..he also works beautifully with fev and loves to hit him lace out and he is creative..so if he can work on his tackling and hardness he could be a excellent addition to our forward line if he does not add a harder edge to his game he will be traded.

With Walks Judd and hopefully Army and possibly Banno coming back in JR might be out of the side before Hoops is due to return.

JR is going to need to lift pretty quickly to stay in the team I reckon

Well competiton for places...thats what we've been crying out for since the dark times under pagan. Its all positive signs and a real sign that our list is starting to take shape.

Some tough decisions will have to be made at the selection table, wouldn't want to be ratts right now.

I dont want to start another JR bashing thread, but yes he is one of many that will be on the fringe of being dropped with some quality players returning. Judd, Walker are definately coming straight back into the side if fit so that means 2 will have to be dropped this week.

Its going to be tough for hoops to break in this side when he comes back....but probably wont be until next season?? So a big pre-season from him and a solid season next year is required, don't think we'll trade him, we wouldn't get that much anyway.

His value in the forward line will change public perception about him.

He is a very good small forward. I really think that is where Rats will be forced to play him, with Browne, Armfield, Anderson all getting games this year.

We desperately need another small forward and Hoops will provide it.

Has been mentioned that he has been carrying his hip injury for 2 years and that he required injections on match days to play. The injections had started to be ineffectual and that is when he had surgery.

It will be excellent to have him pain free and fit to play, I reckon ratts thinks pretty highly of Hoops and will add much need polish to the HFF.

Gee, its beginning to get hard for a spot in the 22 hey? :):thumbsu:

He would walk straight onto a HFF and make us a much better side, he is one guy that will really lift in a better side like we are now. Great silky skills and proven goal kicker would love to have him now.

No place for blokes with no courage who wont chase tackle or put pressure on the oppostion.

Every other side in the AFL will hope we bring him back and play him on the HFF so they can get some run off their half back line.

My Perfect side assuming everyone played to max potential

Backs: Bower,Jamison, Carazzo
H Backs:Walker, T-Bird, Gibbs
Centres:Simpson,Stevens, Scotland
HF: Houlihan, Hartlett, Waite
F:Betts, Fevola, Fisher
R:Special k, Judd, Murphy,
B:Cloke, Hadley, Bannister (need a top tagger), Armifield

That is my feeling as well. I think we have done well to move our list on in the last 12 months. The team emerging is the one that will take us places. Ryan will not be there so I do not see why a young player learning to mix it with the big boys should miss out on that chance to Hoops who I do not think is that much more skillfull. In pre-season he showed he could still hit a target but does not win a hard ball, offer a lead, take a pack mark, run hard and crumb well.If you insist that he plays forward what will he contribute?
I know you love him HBF but I think the game and the team needs to move on

I would argue that he is one of the better crumbers we have in the squad, reads the play well and gets into good positions and can snap goals on both sides of the body.

On top of that we have all seen his ability to hit targets, he can help out Fisher in providing the link between the half back flank and the other forwards.

Go and watch the 1st Port game from last year.....
