The AFL is investigating an alleged incident of religious abuse directed towards Richmond defender Bachar Houli during Friday night's match against Collingwood at the MCG.

The league is quizzing the goal umpire who heard the alleged abuse which is understood to have come from a member of the Collingwood cheer squad.

Houli, one of the AFL's few Muslim players, did not hear the alleged religious abuse but said after the game he had been subjected to other non-racial abuse through the match.

Disappointing if true.

Anyone who saw the photo of dusty and their cheer squad last year shouldnt be the least bit surprised. Just uneducated inbred bogans.

And **** me dead we all have to be scanned into the ground and bag checked but that massive banner can get through security? Lmfao talk about being asleep at the wheel. Disgraceful but not surprising in the slightest.

A Richmond supporter posted this on /r/afl last night:
On the back of the racist banner this evening I thought I would bring this up tonight. The person chucked was a fellow Richmond supporter, he kept calling Bachar Houli 'terrorist'.

I politely asked him to stop. He didn't.

I asked him how Muslims were supposed to integrate in the country when the best examples of integration like Houli were still called terrorists. He called me a leftie ****wit.

I grabbed extra beers, I offered him one to calm things down, he refused it because they were leftie beers. I offered to sell him a beer for profit like a 'rightie'. He bought it for ten bucks. Seriously.

He Kept talking general shit, I had both challenged him and asked him to stop over a 45 minute period, he refused. I realised I'm not in high school any more, I called security and he got thrown out.

A bunch of silent people up to the point cheered and congratulated me to which I was quite blunt. I said something along the lines of 'next time someone is on the receiving end of 45 minutes of abuse for stepping up to racists, you might grow some ****ing balls and help out.'

So many people tolerate shit which is not even close to acceptable because they are happy to do the sideways glance.

THERE ARE RACISTS SUPPORTING THE AFL AND IT IS YOUR DUTY TO STOP THEM. They support your team it's not someone else.

'The standard you walk past is the standard you accept.' grow some ****ing balls and help out.

Not every one gets checked any more. My dad went through unchecked and my brother and I noticed a few others who weren't as well.

Everyone where i was got checked. Half assed but still checked. I dont see the point. If you're not doing everyone then whats the point.

Yeah I was on the opposite side of the row where he was, he kept walking down to the barricade to yell something and throw his arms around then walk back up to his seat.
Heard someone call Houli a terrorist at some stage but wasn't sure where it came from, didn't think it was him since he was a tiges supporter. Eventually cops came down and threw him out (I thought it was just because he was drunk and giving shit to Collingwood supporters). Makes sense now

What do you expect ? It's lollingwood - uneducated bogans. Eddie will have it swept under the carpet in no time. There's no room for racism on the football field (or in the lollingwood cheer squad). But again, we are referring to a feral club that puts up racist banners at an AFL game. A new low for the bottom scrapers.

I think Houli is an outstanding footballer and an excellent ambassador of multiculturalism in sport.

Surely it wasn't a Collingracist supporter. FMD!

Yeah he would of heard them from the top tier.

The reason i'm being turned off of AFL is that there is way to much politics and people trying to turn the game into one big advert for shit.
Cancer Day
Aboriginal Day
Multicultural Day
Umpire Awarness

Who gives a shit i want to watch the footy **** the rest of the crap off.

Imagine that banner was in the Richmond cheer squad.
News headlines on the radio.
Back page on the Herald Sun.
The way the media protects some clubs over others is staggering.

P.S. They just had article on Foxsports so i will take that back also said that Eddie banned the group for life. How the security let that banner stand is amazing.

And it wasn't me even though my views on this differ from many others, i do not bring religion or politics into footy and neither should anyone.

Footy is footy and not anything but.

How times change eh? Any of you go to Vic Park in the 80's/90's? The shit you'd hear there, with coppers within earshot...

Eddie forgets his APE comment already.

Would we be so upstanding if we didn't have him in our side?
There should be no place for racism or religious discrimination in our game, let alone society, regardless of whether you're "seated" or "upstanding". There is a big difference between holding an opinion, something people are welcome to, and discriminating or attacking others because of that opinion.

I'm more disappointed that it was one of our own.

I agree. I just want to watch the football

I was in a line where there were 2 scanners right next to each other, one was going by the book and got this young child to empty his pockets and i mean everything including lolly wrappers, the one next to him was doing any old dodgy scan, guess who i chose to get scanned by.

I think that is a seperate incident from the one from the OP/age article. The article specifies the umpire heard it come from the Collingwood cheer squad. I doubt the umpire will hear anything coming from the top tiers.

Edit: It would be disappointing if it came from the Cheer squad. I would have thought they would have been been better with their standard of behaviour than the avarage supporter. They tend to be the "face" of the supporters of their respective clubs.
