Carlton
I was at the game on Friday night and Carlton's glaring lack of discipline shone out like a beacon. Every time we got the footy Geelong were one-on-one all over the park, then when they got it our blokes refused to man up.

Houlihan's performance after half time was embarrassing. There is not one player in the comp who shows less desperation or committment to help his side. I've seen ten year olds show more resistance to being pushed out of the way. His direct opponent (Thurley) was an in-experienced second-gamer, yet handed Houlihan a football lesson in the second half. Houlihan was unaccountable, had no respect for his opponent, was disgracefully undisciplined for a so-called backman, and for someone with supposedly outstanding skills couldn't hit the side of a barn.

Admittedly Houlihan was good in the second quarter, but how does 15 minutes of good footy constitute a mention in the best players?? He cost us more goals than he created.

Whitnall was shocking. The sooner the end of the season comes and he can be traded, the better. Not that we'd get anything for him. Footy smarts can only take you so far. If you're not prepared to put in the work and improve your athleticism then you're as good as stuffed. How can a former All-Australian become so incredibly useless?? It's almost as big a turnaround of form as Corey McKernan... was an absolute gun for a few years then turned into a complete spud.

If Camporeale negotiates another contract in the vicinity of $500K, he should be looking at himself long and hard in the mirror. He is shockingly unaccountable and does not have a defensive bone in his body. He should be playing on a wing if anywhere, he's not an in-and-under player like he's trying to be at the moment... he's at his best when he's able to run in straight lines, not under a pack trying to get a handball. He's the equivalent of Wayne Campbell at Richmond... the club will go nowhere while this is the type of player that is billed as a walk up start. While he has been an excellent player for us over the years, the sooner he is out of the picture, the sooner the club can move forward.

but if Lance got back to his aa form he would be worth 10 times the value

Lance has been given 3 years to come good... that is far too long. The whole reason we've hung on to him for so long is because we thought he could recapture his AA form. He's had his chance and blew it.

Either drop him straight away, or play him one out in the goal square where his lack of pace cannot be exploited.... and he might be able to steal a few goals.

trade him for Goddard then

Agree with the comment about Campo and Houlihan. I feel like we have five receiver types. Steven, Campo, Houlihan, Scotland, Chambers (a poor mans Scotland as far as I can tell). All teams need a few silky skilled players who may not be hard at the ball. I would keep Stevens and Houlihan first and play Campo off the bench. Scotland it on the periphery at moment and Chambers should be given a chance to take his position. Stevens, Campo and Houlihan are great players but will never be the "crunching the opposition" types...I think we have to accept that and get some tougher inside players if that is what we lack. If we have to trade one of our receivers so be it (except Stevens)...they would probably trade quite well given they would fit other teams game plans much better.

Whitnall is doing well filling roles he's not suited to. He creates quite a few plays off the backline, although I feel like he's moving in slow motion. He's not a natural backman...and playing him on Ottens was not a good decision...Too bad we don't play at Optus anymore...the winter bog really is an advantage for Whitnall. Whitnall would be devastating as a second tall forward...if we had the luxury of playing him in that role...I wouldn't trade him personally...although I would cut his wage significantly.

I think by getting stripped of draft picks and not selecting Goddard has been a blessing of sorts. Obviously you'd rather have the draft picks than not have them, Goddard has hardly set the world on fire for the Saints. And especially playing in a good side like the Saints, it would be far easier to get a kick than at Carlton.

While he'd be a regular starter for Carlton, I'm yet to see any real eveidence that he'll be a worthy No.1 draft pick.

The only roles Whitnall has been filling are the ones on his gut, down at the bakery every second night.

Seriously, there is only one spot for Lance and that's one-out in the square, that way he can hopefully use his smarts to conjure up a few goals. He is far too easily exploited in any other position on the field.

Houlihan shows absolutely no desire to get the ball in a contested situation... fair enough Campo at least shows that he wants the ball. Houlihan might as well just hand the opposition the ball and say "Oh doesn't matter, I'll get it when there's nobody around.

Allow me to re-avaluate:

Camporeale: Love him or hate him, he has given us good service over the years and for that he has my appreciation. If he wants to play for the Blues next year, he will do so as a leading, crumbing forward, and on a significantly smaller contract. If he won't except that, then I wish him the best of luck at his new club and I'll hold no ill feelings towards him. As I said, I'll always respect him.

Houlihan: This leopard won't change his spots, but he's still a very good player. However, he has clearly been exposed in the backline and now is the time to move him onto the wing. He's an excellent attacking player and in a good side, he'll stand out. We can't kick him out just because he's soft. Afterall he is perhaps the best kick in this Carlton outfit.

Whitnall: I would trade him for nothing in return, no joke! He is absolutely terrible, but what's worse is, we always structure our side around this oaf! GRRRR!!! If he was gone, we would look at playing other players in those positions and IMO we would be rebuilding more effectively. If we can get a 2nd round pick out of him though, I'd go for it.

You make some good points Funk, I agree with you on Campo. Been a great servant of the club and I have the utmost respect for him... however if he did want to leave I would not hesitate to hand him the gold watch for great service and see him on his way and wish him all the best.

One thing I cannot and will not cop is blokes putting up the white flag time and time and time again like Houlihan does. Is he scared of getting hurt?? I've never seen a grown man on a footy field without one ounce of aggression in his persona. Fair enough he is highly skilled compared to the rest of the garbage on our list (a theory which I believe is over-rated, look at his ball use in the Richmond game), but guys like that are only good players in a good side. Take for instance the Essendon team of 2000... Heffernan (no good at Melbourne), Blumfield (no longer playing at league level), Caracella (since been traded to 2 clubs). All these guys are similar types to Houlihan and have since been found out after being traded to struggling teams, with the exception of Caracella, who has been a bit player ever since.

100% agree on Whitnall. Even if he does show a bit before the end of season. It's like flogging a dead horse with that bloke.

I agree totally

Get rid of Lance. Not to us though. Hawthorn might take him (some of the deals they have made lately are an absolute joke ie Veale deal, gave them nothing but trouble)
