You do know it is not hard to find her phantom drafts from the last few years?? She maybe great at identifying talent like most single ladies - but judging footballers is another issue..

Ok, so now we know you're an idiot.

It's North. This isn't the Bay.

You have no idea. Do you really think that Melbourne's recruiters, who are on the shakiest of shaky ground, are going to put up pick 2 in the hope/expectation that North will be embarrassed or compelled to pick him?

GWS won't bid and neither will Melb. I also seriously doubt that the Saints or Dogs will risk it- they will be saving their first pick for a dip at No. 1. The greatest hurdle I see in North's plan is GC finishing below them.
I dont know why everyone thinks we are going to pay overs for the number 1 pick, I honestly don't think McCartney is that fussed by it, he has even said he is suspicious about GWS motives and doesn't want to get dragged into a bidding war. If we end up with pick 4 we will 100% bid on him, if we end up with pick 3 well then maybe a little more chance we don't but I'd still say we would.

I stand by this - if a teams with picks 1-4 - don't rate him as one of the best 4 kids for their club he is a chance to go in the 2nd round. Slim chance - but still a chance. No club will bid if they don't rate him 1-4 just to try and stuff us up. Incompetence at the highest level - and Melbourne would be the last team to roll the dice at the draft. The hole your team is in is directly related to the draft and you would only use pick number 2 on the 2nd best player for Melbourne. If that is McDonald you will bid.
But we would rate him in the top 4 for our team, he fits our needs as good as anyone in this draft, so if we finish with pick 4 (which is highly likely) you can either take him at our first pick or if you really want to move up one pick as badly as you do then we will happily take him off your hands, I'm sure he would then love to make a statement and become a gun player for us.

And that is where the whole debate is at - if you are correct and the Dogs rate him in the top 4 for their club then this thread is null and void and the bid will come. If we rate him in the top 4 we will use our 1st round if not we have a tough decision to make. I don't think this is clear cut as it was at the start of the year due to our poor season.

From the forum rules thread:

"No nambeardling or abuse of posters is tolerated and this also applies to the nicknames given to clubs. You know, 'Norf', Carltank , Bummers, GW$ and that sort of stuff along with the term flog."
Andd you just made a pathetic sexist comment about someone who is highly regarded on this board

Do you have some 'insider' information we are not aware of??

Nope but according to Demonheart someone on your board does :p

I just think its pretty damn likely we would, Macca wants some run and carry, he wants some elite skills, he loves players who are versatile, and one of the biggest boxes you need to tick to get drafted by him is you need to have a good attitude, pretty sure that fits McDonald perfectly. I think the only two you could definitely put above him are Boyd and Aish, and I doubt Aish would be that clear cut in front of him anyway.

Just because he hasn't had an amazing year (which most North supporters try to put down to a knee injury anyway from what I've read) when he doesn't really have to be trying his best IMO doesn't mean he will slip that far.

Its a funny one the FS rule, it would work well if all there was to it was you have the chance to draft this player and other clubs have the chance to bid on them, everything else was normal. But these days it seems a fair bit more goes on behind the scenes (telling players they are already a certainty to come to the club so they can take it easy, etc, to try to get them cheaper) where can you draw the line on what choices a club can make for a player that is not officially locked in to come to the club. Ideally I think it would be best if the kids weren't allowed to get an upperhand and train with an AFL club, and really should have nothing to do with them until they locked in at the club.

This conversation is just going round and round so this is the last thing I'll say on the subject, I'd love McDonald at any pick in the draft besides 1 and 2 (because that would guarantee us one of Boyd/Aish) and I'm pretty confident the dogs would feel the same way, but it doesn't matter because this time next year he will be a North Melbourne player.

Indeed this thread is going round and round in circles.

Cheap shots aren't tolerated on BigFooty. These 'shots' are of accumalative effect and make us Mods look at and scrutinise particular posters that little bit harsher. Take it on board, we move on, lets not derail any further threads people.
