How do Hawthorn, Saints and Freo fans feel...

Why are Hawk fans diverting the issue?

If they really we're happy with Hodge they could let it go and there'd be no need for the nastiness. :p

Nastiness?

You started the thread and from what i've said, nothing untoward has been said.

Really, a very good trolling effort but in the end you can't cut it. :)

You bit didn't you?:thumbsu:

You're diverting the thread by asking who Melb took in the draft. We couldn't have taken Judd, Hawthorn could have.

Bit? I answered the thread. Since when is that biting champ? :D

Not really. I commented on how Hawthorn at leas benefitted from that draft by picking up 3 gun players. Melbourne on the other hand (the team of the thread starter), picked up a couple of useless hacks when they too could have picked players like Dal Santo and Mitchell.

How does that feel?

Obviously not too good by the sudden silence.:D

Hahahaha "You could have had Judd" good work. hmmmm. Still hurting from the '88 grand final?

Seriously though, (to divert from my obvious shame at the Hawks picking that absolute hack Hodge when we really should have picked Judd) what was Fremantle thinking?

They could have had Judd or Hodge or Ball, and absolutely thumped you this weekend. Without Judd in their side, they will only win by 4 goals.

Keithy,

Hodge is the type of tough player that will win finals games for his team.

Judd is not. He has been best on ground in his last two finals games and the Eagles have lost them both. ie. Judd is not the type of player that wins big games for his team. Yes he is a great player and does some flashy runs but when (if) the Hawks play finals I think we will see why they picked Hodge first.

Where do I start with this? Possibly the most ridiculous post ever written

Another bitter Dawk shooting barbs.

Not bitter at all, Keithy. Just having a laugh.

Question: This should be a glorious week for a Melbourne supporter. You guys are going to knock off the Dockers, aren't you? Play in a prelim in Sydney?

Why are you trolling Hawthorn supporters? Still a bit bitter?

Buckenara!!!!!!

Actually the thread was aimed at Saints and Freo supporters also. Strangely, only Hawthorn supporters are getting upset.

As for being bitter, you must be having a laugh. Too young to have witnessed any incidents your talking about. I feel nothing toward Hawthorn.

about how their clubs missed out on the greatest player ever in Chris Judd?

Ball and Hodge aren't near him - and Freo missed out on all of them. Weagles wouldn't win a premiership without him.

Seeing as you didn't go over the top in your assessment of Judd, I will answer your question.

I'm fairly philosophical about it all. No one could've predicted how good Judd would've turned out. The concensus was that Hodge, Ball and Judd were the top 3. I'm glad we didn't pick Ball, not that I don't rate Ball, I just prefer Hodge.

If Hodge had turned out to be a spud like Polak, or took years to fulfill his potential like Travis Johnstone, then I'd be pissed off. But I reckon we've got the real deal in Hodgey, no matter what any fool on here says.

I love watching Hodge play, when he's up and running. I actually prefer Hodge's style to Judd's. No word of lie... I'm not saying I'd prefer to have Hodge than Judd, only that aesthetically, I prefer the tough tackling, magnificently skilled, aggro unit that is Luke Hodge to the the fleet-footed freakishness of Judd.

While I have no compunction in rating Judd the best player in the comp, I do think that people go on a bit. They have the Jimmy Hird syndrome going. They fall over themselves and get orgasmic over the most mundane of pieces of Judd "magic". As good as he is, people are overrating him.

Take last Saturday night. Brilliant last quarter, sure. Nearly carried the Eagles to victory with 13 touches in the final term. But what is lost amongst all the hyperbole is the fact that he had a shocker of a first half. In fact he did BUGGER ALL. But don't let that get in the way of pumping him up some more.

You say he's way ahead of Hodge. But in games that I've personally witnessed, I wouldn't place too much between them. As their careers unfold, you'll see. Hodge has had a shit run with injuries, no two ways about it. No excuses. Just bad luck with injuries, not to mention his bad dose of O.P. But he's as tough as they come and I think he'll be right. I don't believe he is "injury prone".

But you ask me how I feel about the 2001 draft... Judd was never ours, so there is no sense of loss. How did you feel about not drafting Barry Hall when you had the chance? Every club, including your could've drafted him. Imagine that!

At one time, we had one of the greatest players to ever pull on a boot and I'm not talking about Lethal. I'm talking about Gary Ablett. He played for Hawthorn... and we sold him... for $60,000. How does that make me feel? Again, I'm philosophical about it. We sold Gazza in 1982 and then we played in 7 successive Grand Finals. Ablett might've kicked 1000 goals, but Dunstall kicked 1,254 goals.

I'm more interested in seeing Hawthorn achieve team success than allowing myself to get all wrapped up in the cult of superstardom like some sad groupie or fan-boi. Hodge is going to be a beauty in this regard. He is a born leader. Your obsession with comparing him to Judd betrays your own envy that he isn't a Melbourne footballer. Get over it.

My final word on this subject is that I'm elated that the Hawks didn't sit idly by and let someone else draft Hodge. We acted promptly and boldly in trading Croad to the hapless Dockers for the number 1 pick. Best move we've made in years. The sourness of Croad's departure even had a happy ending when he returned home and became an All Australian.

How do you feel about trading three draft picks last year for Byron Pickett? It's a pretty hefty price to pay for a short term investment. I guess if he wins you the game this Friday it'll have been worth it.

Luke Hodge. Best and Fairest. All Australian. Our next captain. Future Brownlow medallist.

Gotta be happy with that.:thumbsu:

Who'd you guys pick in the "super draft" anyway?

Luke someone or other....

The only Hawk I can see here getting remotely upset would be Jeffrey.
And he has recently posed a hypothetical question about players not wearing shorts, so I don't know if he really counts........

"I feel nothing toward Hawthorn" sounds like a jilted lover. You guys wanted to, remember? Still a bit too young for that one maybe.

edit: nicely put Chewy.

edit#2: Freo by 4 goals

Ah, the old merger card. Right on cue.

I think the thread was about Judd>>>>Hodge. As I said, if you weren't bitter there'd be no need to bring Melbourne basing into this.

I've obviously struck a nerve eh Liz. ;)

Ummm yeah Keithy, you really got me steaming.

Read Chewy's post Keithy, he puts it pretty nicely. Why are you bringing up the 'old' Judd>Hodge>Ball thing anyway?

but just to dissect you a little tiny bit,

"I think the thread was about Judd>>>>Hodge."
and
"Actually the thread was aimed at Saints and Freo supporters also."

your last week in the finals, you should be whooping it up while you still can, not trolling Hawks supporters.

Ha ha. Hilarious.

Read carefully Lizzy

1. The question is aimed at 3 clubs not just Hawthorn
2. The question is about Judd being the best player in the comp easily and that 2 clubs passed over him
3. This is not our last week in finals

Cheers

and yes, Joffaman is a troll. Freo will only win by 4 goals cause they were dumb enough to not draft Luke Hodge when they had the chance.

I remember Hodge made a surge last year and had people saying he was better than Judd. I believe Hodge has a better kick but that is about all. Ball is behind both imo but the injuries probably have a fair bit to do with it.

LOL.

Kicking skills are the most important thing a player can have.

Hodge is ahead of Judd in this area and well ahead in handballing capacity.

Then, unlike Judd, he has a defensive side and can take contested marks.

He can also play all across the ground.

The only time both players have been fit was last season and Hodge was ahead of him.

Hodge has also lacked the midfield support (paticularly in outside terms) that Judd has enjoyed.

Still, I'm happy that so many people like to get off on the sight of Judd running quickly.

As his salary ludicrously transgresses the $1 million a year barrier, we can quite happily get at least as good service from Hodge at well under half the price, ensuring we can carry another gun or two on our list.

So, in summation...

More than happy with Hodge, thanks.
