Well I looked out the window and I can predict rain for tonight's game Saints v Collingwood.
So how does the rain effect Supercoach scoring?
I imagine there would be a lot more hardball gets, looseball gets more handballs, and more hitouts to ruckman, you could also throw some effective kicks in there.
But there would be a lot less marks, goals missed and plenty of clangers.

What do you think of it? Will it effect tonights game? Which posistion do you think benefits most from the rain?

Re: How does the weather effect SC scores?

The fact that the games at Etihad I don't think the rain will have any effect on the outcome at all...
Didn't think of that, but I meant in general.
It also takes a while for them to close the roof, last year at the Victory games they only closed the roof once.. Then somebody set off a flare and the entire stadium was orange .

It doesnt really matter because they make sure the number of supercoach points scored in each game is about the same

Rain waters down the scoring a bit.
But when its really sunny, the scores tend to dry up too.

Hard to say really.

It makes no difference. They are all weighted. 3300 points to give. A goal in the wet may be worth double than the dry for example, but the same amount of points are given out.

Except that the rain affects how well individual players play. In general, rain benefits smaller players as lots more marks will be spilled and the ball will spend a lot of the time on the ground.

Let me rephrase myself; How does the weather affect individual SC scores?
I can see small forwards scoring high whilst the tall forwards struggling to take a mark/kick a goal. I'd imagine it would be good for the ruckman and the midfield. A lot of clangers in defence etc..

..... I'd say you gave yourself your own answer ;)

Fcuk Melb Victory, Melbourne Heart Premiers and Champions Season 10/11.

I work at Etihad, they said the roof remained open for the Victory because they chose to have it open. All home teams get a choice, unless it's bucketing down and going to destroy the ground. Victory believed they had an advantage.

In terms of SC scoring. Rain doesn't specifically alter the scores, it just so happens that there are more "sloppy" possessions. As the rain makes the ball slippery, it's much harder to kick or handle. This means that Tall players (such as ruckmen/key position players) usually can't mark as easily and are therefore relatively useless unless they bring the ball to the ground (no points). Smaller players usually do better because there are more possessions, contested ball and loose ball gets.

Rain usually drags down efficiency, but helps players with contested ball gets. Hence, someone like Gilbee, wouldnt do quite as well, as he can't be as accurate! Where as Judd or Bartel can pick up on the contested ball and have field days!
