Wanna know exactly how it works. As I understand it if the ladder as it is today was the end of the season what picks would we get. Where exactly do the priority picks fall.

As I understand Carlton would get get picks 1 and 3, but do they get another one at the end of the first round like the Tigers and Dees would?

You get 1 priority pick based on winning no more than 4.5 games
per season in succession, so this year, only Calton Qualify as they
are taking into account 2006.

Richmond & Melbourne qualify next season, however, have to win
less than 5 games to receive the PP

Hope thats right or I'm gonna look stupid

if carlton win rd22 all they will get is pick 3 and melbourne will get pick 2,18+20 if melbourne win carlton will get pick 1 and 3.richmond will get pick 2 ,17+18.if the pies finish 7-8 we will get around pick9-10 and 28-30

Carlton will get picks 1, 3, 20
Richmond will get picks 2, 18, 19
Melbourne will get picks 4, 21

assuming melbourne wins the final round game against Carlton!

Close.

Win less than 5 games (or no more than 4.5) then you get a priority pick.

If in the previous year you had no more than 4.5 wins (like Carlton) then you'll get a pick before the first round - i.e. Pick #1

If in the previous year you had 5 wins or more (like Richmond and Melbourne), the you'll get a pick before the second round - i.e. Pick #18 for Richmond and Pick #19 for melbourne

So, if Richmond, Melbourne and Carlton don't win anymore games for the rest of the year they'll all get priority picks - just in different spots.

Richmond are guaranteed an extra pick at the end of the first round. Melbourne (end of the first round) or Carlton (first pick overall) will lose their priority pick if they win one more game which is why when they play each other in round 22 it will be interesting to say the least.

If there was ever a time to bet on a draw, that would be it. Would not surprise me in the least.

We'll try again.
New rule is:
Poor performance across a season is deemed as 4 wins or less.
Poor performance in a single season results in a priority pick taken immediately after the 1st round.
Poor performance in each of 2 consecutive seasons results in a priority pick prior to the 1st round.
If a team wins, say, 7 in one year & 1 in the next, though they sum to 8, they only get the PP at the end of the 1st round.
Carlton won 3.5 in 2006 and currently have 4 in 2007.

As stated, if Carlton lose rounds 21 & 22, draft picks will be:
Richmond: 2, 18, 19;
Carlton: 1, 3 & 20;
Melbourne: 4, 21;

If Carlton win Round 22 v Melbourne, draft picks will be:
Richmond: 1, 17, 19;
Carlton: 3 & 21;
Melbourne: 2, 18, 20;

Note Well: A draw knocks BOTH Carlton & Melbourne out of PP contention.
In this edxtraordinary & unlikely case, draft picks will be:
Richmond: 1, 17, 18;
Carlton: 2 & 19;
Melbourne: 3, 20;

Thanks guys, much appreciated....so who are going for here. Are we going for in the Blues v Dees game...I'd hate to want them to win, but at the same time its better for us if they don't get the priority pick at the start of round 1.

The system is different in finals though...

For example say Blues, Tigers etc were all NOT getting priority picks.

If the Pies finished 8th... But we won the flag we would not get 9. We got get pick 16. Like last year we finished 5th which means we should technically hav had pick 12. But instead we got pick 10 because we lost the 1st final but we finished higher then St Kilda who also lost their 1st final.

So basically come finals the picks systems is re-arranged according to how far a team progresses in the finals.

Okay so if we don't make the top 4, we lose the first round of the finals and the Blues get the priority then we're looking at pick 10-11 and pick 27-28.

If we don't make the top 4, we win the first round of the finals, but get knocked out the next round and the Blues get the priority then we're looking at pick 12-13 and pick 29-30.

Is that correct?
